Finish for outdoor hardwood railing

I am having a lot of difficultyin finding a finish for a beautiful hardwood railing on my deck. Lots of conflicting information re life of varnishs and quality of oils. I desparately would like to retain as much of the colour and grain of the timber, so do not want a heavily stained finish.

The deck gets afternoon sun and rain (when it actually does).
