Screen Door Snib

Hi! everyone, but especially to any locksmiths out there.

I' ve discovered that the snib on my screen door will come "off" if the handle is jiggled a couple of times.

This is rather scarey as I used to just tip the snib over thinking that the door was secure from anyone trying to open it from outside. If the key is used to lock the door from inside the snib stays in place and is alright.

The lock is one of those that seem to be on nearly every screen door that I have seen.
Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem or is a new lock required?.

It sounds like there is some wear in the mechanism, or it was a dodgy lock in the first place. For piece of mind, I would be replacing it if you like to leave the main door open and rely on the screen door for security. Should be able to replace with a similar lock without much trouble, but an enhanced lock (more trouble) would give better security. Call it based on your needs and peferences.
