Hi, I am trying to figure out an average fence cost in the Melbourne area. The fence to be replaced is 28m long.

I have a quote of $105 per lm for colourbond (2.1m high). I think this is reasonable as it is being done in conjunction with other work. What I am wondering is what would a standard fence height cost in timber over the same distance - any ideas?

From what I found it ended up being a bit more for wood, as wood fences are more labour intensive then the CB well thats what the two contractors said.

The quote seems about right $100-$120 depending on site conditions.

Thanks for the information WillyInBris. I wonder if the costs are the same in both cities?

I have a friend who is a fencer, and he does good quality 2.1m timber fences for $130-150 metre depending on site conditions. He does does 800mm post insertions using 1/2 bag cement per post. 90mm galv nails to post and 65mm galv into palings. Plinth board is 150 x 38mm

Dunno about Mexican prices but here in sydney a timber lapped and capped fence is anywhere from $55 per l/m. All the usual extras...extra $15+ for each hole dug in rock, extra for extra height posts, extra for extra length palings...

I just got my fence done and it worked out at $62 l/m.

I know your after a metal fence but you get the idea.

Hey Groggy are you really gunna pay someone to put up a fence?

Neighbour and I just put up a paling fence in two days..... 23 metres 1.8 high 16 holes 450 deep all dug by hand.

Cost us just over 500 all up.

Hey Groggy are you really gunna pay someone to put up a fence?I've had my fill of fences  . One third of it is mine, the other two thirds belong to others. I won't have time to do it and one of the neighbours has a backyard wedding coming up.
