View Full Version : Supercoat as tile underlay?

I am getting an ensuite bathroom built by a builder.

One shower wall is brick. We have agreed that he will render and tile the wall.

I was expecting cement render, but he has rendered it with a render supercoat substance. It looks like plaster.

A friend of mine has queried whether the Supercoat is suitable as a base for a shower wall of tiles. He thinks it is too soft, and the tiles could eventually fall off.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Thanks

Mark

Ask the builder what exactly is the product he has applied and then ring the manufacturer's customer support line for definative advice whether the product is suitable for the intended purpose in the manner it has been applied.

Thanks Juan,

Great suggestion. I found the empty bag in the junk pile. It was SupaCoat 400 joint compound. I rang the manufacturer, and they said it was ok :2tsup:
