BTW, what's the difference 'twixt crimson, lilac, mauve and purple

Yep. Also, some of the other answers are not wrong but too dogmatic: catgut is not made only of sheep and horse guts, camel's hair is not only from squirrels, and as Mick says, what's in a colour name?:)
