Can anyone inform me if branded tapwares (eg Grohe) from overseas will have the same plumbing standards / gauges / sizes as here? Just can't justify paying double in shops here for an identical item compared to buying it from Ebay and have it shipped.

Mate its a bit suss buying it from O/S as they seem to forge everything, even the australian standards approval labels etc.
I wouldnt buy them personally but thats just me, while they may look good they will be made from inferior materials, you may not be able to get parts for them etc.
Just bear in mind that these people can copy or forge anything!
IMHO your better off spending the extra.

No, I don't intend to get cheap China imports, only genuine German made tapwares that you see in more high end plumbing supplies.
Are the plumbing standards in terms of size of connections the same as here?

See thread on Grohe taps http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=44769 and contact Seriph1 for further details.

legally , unless you buy it from here in aus- you can't install it.
But...
If the product you buy from overseas is available here you may be able too, best to ask the retailer before purchase.

I know someone who bought a heap of tapware off ebay because it was half the price of what it was in OZ. the plumber refused to install it as it didnt meet Aus standards. Be careful....

When we did our bathroom, I specifically looked for Australian made tapware. I found Faucet brand, a family owned company in Kerang Northern country Vic, and Par Taps in Preston Melbourne. No doubt there are more, but I look towards Aussie jobs if I can. Just my way of making sure they are Aus Standards.
