Plasterboard disposal

Having just sheeted my whole house, I have a bunch of offcuts and scraps to dispose of. I know getting a skip bin is the obvious and possibly easiest way.. but what other methods exist?
Does anyone recycle it if I drop it off there?
Can it be crushed down to mulch or anything?
Or am I overthinking it, and it's just plain rubbish.

Mostly land fill, although there is a bit of recycling done (or said to be done). The Gypsum ground up is a great clay breaker.

The problem is the costs of recycling far out weighs the cost to pick up.

Having said that we are looking at recycling waste from our own projects. More as a service to our clients as opposed to recycling for profit or other reasons. This would be a direct cost with no return other than removal of rubbish from the site for the benefit of our client.

But to get someone to pick it up pureley for recycling purposes would be very remote.

It goes in the mulch pile at our tip. They put it through the chipper with all the trees and left over framing timber etc and they sell it for $8 a metre.

YOu can use it in your garden as mulch. It's great for clay soils and 100% bio-degradeable, which isn't suprising seeing how it's mostly autoclaved chhok poo held together with a bit of plaster and sandwiched between two layers of paper.

Ha! Our local landfill does the same but they give it away to local residents for FREE! Just drive your ute to the pile and a bloke scoops it up and dumps it in the tray for you. :D

Just throw in in with the compost.
Make sure you spread it through the other material.

And nor do ours. As ratepayers, we are entitled to unlimited residential trips to the tip. They do, of course, charge the commercial collectors as well as the tradesmen. :)

The council here uses contractors for pick up.

The way it works here is that you pull up at the office and a bloke comes out and looks at what you've got in the trailer. Anything that can be recycled you're not charged for, the rest goes in the hole and you're charged a cubic metre rate. About $12 for a 6x4 box trailer.

That's assuming you're prepared to sort it yourself, they wont do it. So you can do what most people do: pay your $12 and dump the lot in the hole.

There is a place out at Braybrook (or nearby) that recycles think its worth about $300 a ton.
Don`t think they pick up though, we have a guy that comes to all our jobs and collects our waste-must be clean, free from contaminents ect.From what he said he can drop off up to 3 tons a day.
Will try to find out some more details(genrally don`t take much notice of it once it`s been thrown out the door haha!:U)
