Could someone please tell me why my home IP address has been banned from this forum - meaning I cannot get my daily dose of woodworking info, projects and advice?

I have sent numerous messages to the 'Administrator' asking to be un-banned or at least to get the reason for the banning. To date I have had no response whihc is very frustrating.

Has this happened to anyone else and can I please be reinstated - I am having withdrawal symptoms?

When I go to the website on my home computer it somes up with a message "This IP Address has been banned..." No mater what I select on the page it keeps coming up with this mesage. I am currently logging on from a different computer - thus different IP address at the moment and access to the forum.

Hi Kirk

If your on dialup or even some ADSL your ip is assigned to you (Unless you asked for a fixed IP ) when your modem starts up so if you restart your modem you should get a new IP ( This is why IP Fillters aren't used anymore )

Hope that Helps

Make sure your ADSL router has not been set to ban you from the web site. ?? SWMBO ??

Glenn

We have satellite broadband so I do turn off the modem from time to time to reset it and switch servers when it goes slow (we apparently have a rotating choice of 3 servers), I will try this again later tonight.

David G - never thought about SWMBO - I will investigate!!!

Hopefully something works - thanks for the advice - I will let you know how I go.

Kirk,

Without knowing what your IP address is I can't do anything. There is only several thousand IP's banned so it needs to be narrowed down a bit.

I have just spent the last week banned from the forum too and after two Emails to the Administrator I was reinstated. I still have no idea why I should have been banned.

Confused I am.:?

Another problem with some ISP's is that they don't block spammers from using their company as a base, so the ISP gets blacklisted. I know of one Australian ISP who advertised quite heavily & refuses to have anything to do with complaints about the spammers using their service.

One site a friend manages gets over 3-4 THOUSAND spams from them EVERY DAY, and nearly all contain mal-ware such as virii & trojans and they are coming from the ISP rather than a 'spoof' address as the messages have been backtracked.

Wonder why some ISP's get blacklisted?

Gooday Kirk. I have been through all the ISP addresses that have been used by you and none are banned so at the moment at a bit of a loss as to what is happening.

are you sure your computer hasn't been compromised and its trafic routed thru one of those dodgy IP addresses that has been banned for good reason.

Is your machine
patched up to date.
virus checker current
adaware or similar in place and current
done some system scans with virus checkers and malware detection programes.

cheers

All fixed....

A banned IP address has been typed incorrectly, eg 118 220,340.87 Note the . is missing between the 118 and the 220 This unfortunately had the affect of shutting down all IP's begnning with 118.

Unfortunately I was badly burned in a fire a couple of weeks ago and haven't been able to use the computer until today. There were a number of members affected by this as I discovered when I opened the emails and began wading through them.

Cheers - Neil :flamed:

Neil,
All the best for a speedy recovery.

I guess at some stage when there is a little less pain you will provide a some detail on what not to do!!

Thanks for taking the time out to sort this out while recovering from your burns - much appreciated.

Also thanks to all the other suggestions as well.

I was told that it originates with your ISP. At some time, spammers might have used the ISP. Some sites/forums flag the ISP as originators of spam and block you. It could be something you put in your post, that the filter thinks is o8scene or whatever... Thus, a banned 'sticker' pops up. So be careful how you spell 'bandage'!

Me? I did a virus scan, found a virus and it never happened since.

Hope this helps John
