I have a small hole in the corner of my gyprock roof that's about the size of a 20c coin. What's the best way of repairing? It's in a dimly room but clearly visible. It sorta looks like a cockroach on my ceiling....:2tsup:

Hi, a samll hole like this is very easy to fix. You will need a 100mm scraper (joint knife) and a small amount of cornice adhesive. You can get a 2.5 kg pretty cheap from a plasterboard store or Bunnings. I prefer cornice adhesive over spak filler etc because I can contol the setting time better and do the job with a 3 coat application with very little sanding required.
Fist make sure there is no lose edges if there is push them into the hole, (preferably) or peel the edges back.
Mix about a 2 cups of cornice adhesive with enough water to make a thick, (but still wet) mix. Take about a 1/3 of the mix and mix in about a desert spoon of salt mix it vigorously on a board. This will set in a few minutes.
Using just the corner of the scraper stuff as much as you can get into the hole so it folds back over the back of the board. The mix will ooze back out of the hole that is good don't try to spread it flat because it will just keep ozing back out. You do not want to be spreading the mix around the hole at this stage.
When it has started to set carfully scrape it back flush with the surrounding surface.
Take a bit more of the soft mix and place it on the board and stir it agin vigorously for 2 or 3 minutes, no salt need this time, combined with the time lapsed the extra mixing it will aslo set quite quickly. Spread this out over the hole but only for about 1/2 the width of the scraper wipe it back flush with the surrounding surface. Again when it sets scrape it back lightly.
Repeat again but for the full width of the scraper. Give it a light sand when you are done and paint.
The important thing is not to spread each coat to wide and scrape it back level each time with the surrounding surface.
There is no need to use any jointing tape over a hole this size, provided that you cram as much in on the fist coat so it fill out over the back of the sheet. You could even use a smaller tool, (even a table knife would do the job), that fits right inside of the hole to wipe some adhesive onto the back of the board in the first stage.
