Hi could someone confirm my suspicions regarding the following.

A "footing step" would be used when there is a change in height such as on a sloping site to maintain even brickwork.


A "slab step" would be used say in in a sunken lounge.

I have just got my slab detail form the engineers and they have included the above but I cant see where they will be used in my situation as my block is level and I have no sunken areas.

Even on a level site, dropping the slab level for front/back porches isn't a bad idea.

I've also seen them being used under wet areas.

I've no idea why they'd use a footing step on a level site though... :?

Ivan,
I have been given a A4 sheet of paper that has the specifications for external wall footings, Internal thickening,slab thickening, slab step and footing step.
The site is a class "S" site (sand over clay) with a S4 detail.
I understand the external,internal and slab thickening but I can't see where I would be using the slab step or footing step as my block is level and the actual slab will be level (no steps).
I suspect they just give out the "details" to cover all scenarios,but I would like to be sure as I am calculating how much concrete I will need.

No the specs for wet areas is 50mm max set down and maintain slab thickness.

They usually cut and paste all sorts of typical details that may not necessarily be applicable to your job, but the details are there if you need them.

True about general specs and may not be refering to your plans.
But just in case.... Check the depths of the internal footings to the edge beam ones, they may be different depths and the steel may step there.
As for "slab step", usually the front/back patios and the garage if joined to the main slab will be dropped 86-172mm (one or two brick courses). Check the plans for rl's (heights of slab levels.) for this.
This will also mean the ground underneath the slab will be stepped as well.
