View Full Version : Austrlalia's new shoe policy

Greg Ward

The Prime Minister announced today a 'new shoe for votes policy' for his true believers.

The population of Australia is 20 million

5% of the population is one legged.

Half of the others vote Liberal and will be forced to go unshod

How many shoes will he need to buy?

What percentage of the monopods are Liberal? :)

edit: and what % of the Labour monopods have their right leg?

You need to be 18 and a citizen to vote. The figure of 20 million includes a large number of permanent residents as well as children. How many of the 47.5% of 2-legged liberals qualified as voters?

I'll be a mug and suggest 19,500,000 shoes.

I assumed that 5% the Labor voters had only one foot and that 95% of Labor voters had two feet.

The shoe policy is not the only one from the new Govt.

Those with one leg apparently are going to get shoes whether they want them or not. They new Govt. figures that they'll be a shoe-in for a vote at the next election....

Hadn't you heard that as we are all created equal, under new PC regulations, we must acknowledge the right of everyone to a vote, and that included bubs and kids and adolescents.
It's apparently the 'working families have a right to vote' policy.

Therefore the whole population votes

Another thought - 10,000,000 shoes.

"new shoe for vote" can be read as "one shoe per vote" which means all those that voted Labor get one shoe.

5% of voters are one legged and half of the rest voted Liberal.

Could be interpreted as all one legged people voted Labor and half of the rest (1/2 of 95%) voted Liberal.

No of Liberal voters = 0.5 X 0.95 X 20M

Labor voters = 20M - (0.5 X 0.95 X 20M) = 10.5 Million

Each gets one shoe so 10.5 Million shoes:?

Reading Greg's reply he indicates that "one legged people are going to get shoes (plural)" so perhaps my answer should be 21 Million shoes.

They are all left shoes too. Something about half the factory being unsafe so right shoes cannot be made until new building works are completed. Builders are complaining that they always drop hammer on right foot so can't work until right shoes can be procured.

Yeeeer! That's the whole point. Explore every angel and all that. Nothings simple if you look deep enough. Not even boys!

Any solutions Stirlo?

A fresh mind like yours is something to remember and admire - enjoy it whilst you are still young. I am not suggesting you are not wordly or streetwise, I find your views refreshing and lateral.:2tsup:

i know. its fun.

at work, hockey and school i explore most technicalities and use them to my advantage.

i love finding technicalities. i use them alot at school to get out of detention and all that kind of stuff. but usually, it gets me in more trouble than i would have been in...something about being a smartarse ( the truth is teachers hate being prooven wrong by students )

eg...no where in the school rules does it say you can not eat in class. i kindly told one of my teachers that and asked if i could eat a sandwhich. he replied no. i then asked why not as it was not written in the school rules ( which this teacher made me copy out twice:(( ), i then proceeded to tell him that teachers had the authority to enforce school rules but not make up new ones. at this stage he was quite ticked off so i decidced to go further. he didnt like that so i got detention because i was being a nuisance ( sp? )and was disturbing the class ( of which every one was doing deadset nothing ). it was fun while it lasted though and i had him thinking very hard...needless to say he never made me write out the school rules again lol

i was merely pointing out that ( just like mikes thread ) the question was simple enough and you just had to assume a few things. i know the questions dont give you enough information to answer it to its full potential but i think its just like entering a course at school - some knowledge is presumed to be known.

but then again - assumption is the mother of all fvckups

interesting enough - a question in a maths test at school didnt give me enough information and i wrote for my answer that the question gave insufficient information and explained why. i got full marks for that question.:2tsup:
cheers

ps. good hijack

Stirlo,

When I was at school the teachers were allowed to smoke in the classroom. The acting Principal smoked cigars. The school rules stated that students were not permitted to smoke cigarettes.

I smoked a cigar in class and like you got off on a technicality but the rules changed to include cigars and pipes.

Keep it up mate the world needs the likes of you, there are too many boring old pharts still in their teens - what will they be like when they get older?:oo:

Now what's the answer to the puzzle?

I think there should be a "hijack" section, where all successfully hijacked posts get transfered to. That way we know where to find them after they have been spirited out of the new posts section and we want to add another thought- of course if post gets back on topic it can get transfered back again.

What was the question?

i like it WB...good point, i'm sure our school rules are very much the same.

now, i dont smoke cos i like runnning around playing sports too much and i dont want lung cancer and all that crap but i might be able to pursuade a couple of 'rebel' students to try this technicality.

:hmm:

the answer is 7 btw. or zero.

Actually the problem for Dudd is who are the labor voters
In the house of rep first prefference votes for labor were 5,388,147 but in the senate by group they were 4,116,971 now did all the senate voters vote first for labor in the house of reps and the 1.2 mill or so who diddn't are they sneakers or true believers or only after the shoe, do they realy have any sole or are they just heels who are tongue tied and running a platform or a wedge between the reps and the senate.
The patent answer has a point to slip on and that is how many that actually voted are one leggard, were they flat or athletic on voting day and how many were overseas in oxford and shod get the boot, or those whos under wear included a thong, sand all the covering off some and you would find they arn't true believers but the pen slippered and they voted wrongly still letto the dance keep running sensibly the gum flow freely and the odd hobnail stick up but in the end the answer is as stirlo said 7 or 42 depending on weather its an american fitting or a european one. :D

Greg Ward

The answer is 20 million.

9 million X 2 for the Laborites + 2 million x left shoes whether they fit or not for the one-legged voters of either persuasion.

I see today that the states and Federal Labor are going to assist with a further 25,000 heart operations..... reading the fine print...... however your heart has to be on the left side of the body

At the last federal election we had in the house of rep's
12,419,863 formal votes
510,951 informal votes
12,930,814 total votes being 94.77% of
13,644,417 voters

You've calculated using data that was not in the original question:

The question identified that there were one-legged voters, but failed to indicate that they were to be shod regardless of their vote. The name of the policy would suggest that one-legged liberals would miss out.

On balance, I think a panel of mediators would arrive at a figure of 19 Million shoes as the most likely result, not withstanding that we have no data on the labor/liberal voting stats of the one leg brigade.

You also failed to recognise that 90% of Queenslanders only wear thongs or bare feet, and the resulting storm of ebay shoe sales would depress the worldwide shoe market causing a collapse of the WSF exchange and possibly taking down several shoe-producing nations' economies. :D

Australia's present population turned 22 million just prior the election

If you don't like the answer, write your own question......but 19,000,000 rates 9/10 (or 18/20)

It's not my fault that the only shoe sizes available are 11.

Apparently each comes with a free tape titled 'How to learn Mandarin' in 3 easy lessons'

Ahhhh Come the revolution.......

Then again...... It's already here....

Why don't they just give us socks. One size fits all and the people with one leg would have a spare and it would be less costly.
