Hi all,

Went to Bunnings to price a 4-outlet power point and was a bit gobsmacked to see they want $38.50 for one, which seems like a big rip-off. Does anyone know where I can get one for a better price than this?

The Electrician you get to install it should be able to get it for a good price

Why not mount doubles like this. You can buy these for $67.00 box of 10 from Bunnings.

check your state legislation.....far as I know it is ILLEGAL to install, change, modify, or play around with electricity unless you are QUALIFIED to do so ...

that's about the price for which they are listed in the clipsal catalogue, i doubt your sparky will get it much cheaper than that as that's the listed trade price.

i'd say there's nothing wrong with mounting multiple gpo's next to each other, I know of no reg which prohibits it. If anything, it wouldn't be done for aethetic reasons... one single 4 gang looks getter than two doubles. The only other difference is that a 4 gang sits furhter out from the wall than a double outlet.

However, for price reasons, I can completely understand why a customer may choose multiple double outlets.

At work, we are moving into a new building. All the electricians had to go around removing the four gang gpos to reuse in the new building.

$6.70 each from Bunnings bargain Buy a 4 outlet from Bunnings for $38.50 sounds about right! Just checked my clipsal catalogue 06 version mind you.... and a clipsal 2015d4we classic 4 outlet trade price is $45.00 bucks in saying that clipsals catalogue is designed to protect us electricians by stating over inflated prices on all products in their catalogues no right minded spark would pay $45.00 ea for them... and it gets better retail price for this unit is $58.00

I bought a Clipsal brand 2015X (single GPO plus switch) from an electrical and data supplier in Mitchell ACT and paid $25.38 retail. Also bought a clipsal RJ64SM and paid $12.53 retail.

I later found on-line at http://www.4cabling.com.au (http://www.4cabling.com.au/) (mentioned in this forum) their price for a similar item but SPM brand $7.30, similar phone jack $3.50. Postage / courier to ACT is $11.50
Looking at the retail price I paid I can see why some members suggest leave it to the tradesman to get it at a discount (or decide if worthwhile to buy on-line if you just want to pay for the install) .

BTW the 4-way GPO from this on-line company is $19.50
Also, you can always put a dual above, dual below GPO and put a surround, this sometimes look neater than the long 4-way ones.

Do you know what brand the 4cabling ones are? They don't say they are clipsal or HPM. Might be ringgrip or arles, or some other cheap brand.

Does it matter what brand they are?.

the fact of the matter is sparks and I for that matter have been blinded by this huge multi-national company and companies claiming their Aussie made and the best and all the rest of it
have been riped off for years by clipsal incidentally who is now owned by schneider electric and HPM who is also owned now by an off shore company
legrand it is only now that imported products and clipsal and HPM most products are also imported has placed huge pressure on these mobs to lower their prices I have used clipsal rj data outlets and have also used a cheaper version in Legrand and you cannot tell the two apart
these companies have you believe that they genuinely maufacture their products
inhouse and go through stringent testing and all the rest of it if you believe that you believe in santa claus. If the product is manufactured to an Australian Standard it is fit for Australian use!<!-- / message -->

Googled SPM and came up with another on-line electrical wholesaler if anyone is interested. Similar price offerings as 4cabling, this one is First Stop on the Gold Coast.http://www.firststop.com.au/home Not sure of postage/courier costs.

I buy 4 clipsal double gpo's with mounting blocks/kits for the same price as 4-outlet HPM gpo. Sometimes mounting a 4-outlet can be a pain.
