Hi Jake

How is it going there with the floods. My daughter was evacuated last night about midnight and went to her friends place up on the hill.

She reckons it is up to the roof of the service station down the bottom and she says there are fridges and freezers floating down the river.

Fortunately at this stage it is only up to her back fence and her place is at about 20 metres but the flood is running at about 18 metres. The trouble is that they had over a 100mm up at Wiangeree last night and that will hit Kyogle about 3.00 this afternoon.

Then Lismore has to cop all that water in the next couple of days.

All the best anyway.

from reading one of Jakes post's, he said he lived near the Library. Its a small town and looks to be close to the river. I think its all been evacuated so he must also have been.

I've been to Jakes place and he is just behind the the main street and I think he will be OK where he is.

My daughter lives across the valley from him but is much lower and the water has just entered her back yard but her house is at 20 metres and the flood apparently peeked at 18.1 metres.

Here is a link of a guys blog showing some pics of the 2003 flood. He says 2008 but I think that might be a typo because all of his photos are dated 2003. Anyway some interesting pics.

Barry, thanks for the link does look a bit damp in Kyogle at the moment and they won't be getting petrol from the servo for a while.
Hope there isn't too much property damage and Jake is keeping his feet dry.

:( and I can't swim either.

thanks. Luckily my house is high enough. Something like 500 people have had to evacuate. Fair bit of mess to clean up latter I'd imagine.

Everybodies has been stocking up on the essentials. (tobacco shelves are bare I've noticed ). Helicopters flying around constantly. Bit like we're on an island. Can't get out. They say it'll start coming down Monday.

Glad to hear you're OK Jake. Came down from Brisbane today on the NE, but there was heavy rain and a lot of water around Warwick & Stanthorpe. Heard later that some parts were flooded. Two road accidents - looked like they had aquaplaned off the road.

We spent three days in the pretty little caravan park next to the creek about a month ago and spent some time wandering along the walk beside the creek.

I really feel sorry for the permanent residents in the park!

Hi Barry,
I can confirm that they were indeed photos from 2008, Probably about an hour before the peak(Came up another 0.1~0.3m i think).
My camera's date kept resetting itself back to 2003 everytime i turned it on/off.

Hope your Daughter/Daughters home is allright though.

Cheers,
Dion

Hi Dion

Welcome to the Woodwork Forum. Yes I got your email regarding the dates. They where probably some of the best pictures of the whole flood and really gave people a better idea of what happened.

My daughter lives at the end of Larkin Street just around the corner from where you took your last pics. Fortunately it would have had to go another metre before it would have gone in the house. All she had happen was three chooks drowned and a few things scattered around.

She fared much better than lot of the more unfortunate other residences. Floods are always sad occasions and devastating for people.
