Hi
I am trying to work out my options for fixing the back room of my house, specifically addressing the height of the floor.
The house is a small rural home made predominantly from block. It has 2m concrete verandahs on 3 sides. On one of the sides, someone has previously enclosed the verandah, cladded it in tin and lined the interior to create a laundry and storage room. Unfortunately they left the floor as the standard verandah floor, which is flush with the surrounding concrete pathway. This has resulted in minor flooding in very heavy rain, and my washing machine, beer fridge and chest freezer have been sitting in about 1.5" of water.
I would like to raise the floor slightly, but am limited by the verandah beam which is currently just high enough to house the standard size door (ie 2040)
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to raise the floor level (there is 140mm height difference between verandah to house slab)? Ive searched the forums, but most people dont face the issue I have with the outside door not being able to be raised. I'm also worried about my options as we have massive above ground termite mounds within 50m of the house.
Money is a serious consideration, otherwise I'd extend the house to include a laundry and restore the verandah.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the long email.
Tony
