Just joined this forum .

Between our place and our friends [ both bought our blocks 2 years ago] we have 90ac covered {90%] in camphor . A few really big ones here and there but most less than 500 diameter--bit more close to the ground.

Have been thinking of buying a mill and milling it up to sell .Any advice in terms of dimensions of wood most in demand would be greatly appreciated as that will determine the type of mill we get .

I thought of just getting a swing blade mill and cutting up the trees less than a 500-600 in diameter and save the big ones till I get it down and know what I'm doing as I'v only had chains saws and circular saws etc --never a saw mill .

Any advice greatly appreciated .

Hi Mat

Welcome to the forum.

When I lived on the Far North Coast the general consensus was if you had 25% of your land with Camphor on it and if you hadn't a plan in place to remove it your place was doomed to never get rid of it.

I believe in Ballina Council it has been declared a noxious weed.

At 90% coverage all I can say is that if you intend to cut it up and sell it you will never run out of the resource because I believe that it will grow quicker than you can cut it up.

G'day Mat.
We milled a lot of camphor from up your way a few years ago.

Give Forests NSW a call. They did have a scheme where they would go in and clear it and replant native trees.
Also give the slab factory a call at Mullumbimby. They may be looking for some camphor.

Weisboy here on the forums may want some as well. Send him a PM.
