Filtering water going into a rain water tank

I intend to install a bladder tank under the house.

I would like to filter out the leaves, seeds, etc. so they don't enter the tank.

Does anyone know of a good filter (ie. filter or first flush diverter) that does not need too much maintenance?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Don't know about being low maintenance, but I have done to our 2 tanks [soon to be 3] is get some aquarium tank filter - its like a sponge rubber - have cut it to size and fitted it into the leaf filter of the tank. It really filters out all the crap, but it is not low maintenance, I take them out every downfall or two and clean them out. You would be amazed the black gunk that gets caought up in these filters, Other than that a first flush system works well

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at the aquarium tank filters.

The reason I need it to be low maintenance (if possible) is that it will be under the house and awkward to access.

Bunnings sell a first flush filter that appears to be horizontal and can be buried in the ground. Their plumber is never there when I want him, so I have not been able to ask about it. I'll try again today.

There is a tank maker called Team Poly, They make a first flush diverter and filter. It's not on their website but there you can find nearest distrubutor.

I live off rain water an have used products from http://www.rainharvesting.com.au namely the Leaf Beater and their first flush water divider. I got mine from Bunnings.

You still have to clean the mesh out of the leaf beater and the filter in the water diverter from time to time but between these two devices it keeps most of the gunk out of the tank.

Was in Bunnings this morning and was looking a secondary filter called a "Lazy Lizard" its a complimentry filter to match up with the "Frog Mouth Filter".

A search on the web will bring up some info.

I installed a Leaf Beater from Bunnings for my first tank which is fed from only one gutter outlet (long story) that is hidden in the back yard. (I expect that the body corporate and wife would not like them on every gutter outlet).

I had a look at the First Flush downpipe water diverter but it is unsuitable for under the house.

I think I may need the "In-ground diverter" made by first flush.

I also want to see what the Team poly offer, their agent in Melbourne is Reece. But have not been there yet.

I have not seen the "Lazy Lizard" yet, must look at it.
