Yes, yes the famous Silent C will be in our midst early January and I am hosting a GTG at my place Sunday 6th January.
I don't have a big shed, but do have a large pool - so bring swimmers :)
Intend starting 10am and going till when ever.
Would be great to have a gaggle of canetoads and nearby mexicans to join us and share in fellowship and talk of splinters and such like.
Please indicate if you are interested. I am at Petrie - 35 minutes North of Brissy.
Can we get a carload from Toowoomba too ??:)

G'Day TeeJay,
What is the theme of the day?
Should we bring anything;
or perhaps,
something in particular?
I reckon I know of one Fine young Lass out this way who might also be interested;
Though she might think herself a bit RUFF;:cool::doh:
but does mighty fine WoodWork.:D:rolleyes:
I'm an Hour out West of 2woomba.

Teejay,
I hope to be there, assuming that my cardiac surgery can be done by catheterisation next week, and that it doesn't reduce me to a vegetable, or worse:)
I have a number of zigzag frames ready built that I would like to get tested to destruction by the collective avoirdupoids of the assembled company.
I also need to check up on SilentC to discover whether he is now balder than I am.

Looks like a pretty good tribe lining up - I'm sure it will be a great day.
Ivan, you are welcome to bring a lucky door prize if you wish as these are always welcome by those there :). Aside from that I only ask you bring your own alcohol - SWMBO and i will sort the remainder.
Wattlewemake, hope you can make it. Hadamona you are most welcome.
Ruffly you should know me better than that :D :p - swimming is voluntary - but I do not take resposibility for others actions :U
Rocker - do wish you well with your procedures and hope you can join us - will be interesting to put your makings to some tests.
Mr and Mrs Midge - welcome  - look forward to it - we still have on our list a trip to your place for pics and a little duckboat sail :D
Any guys wishing to bring their wife/children - that's fine; SWMBO and I welcome them :). I only ask an idea of numbers for catering  SWMBO and I have a 15yo daughter and a 3yo son so we are pretty flexible with kids age - the house is reasonably kid proof - little bloke has already trashed what can be done so
That's my excuse as to why I have not made any fine furniture - little Ronnie - 3yo boys are amazing at finding the weakness in anything - or just damaging nice things

Hopefully for interest we will have Rockers joints to test.
I will also set up an area where one of you really experienced operators of the Domino can do a presentation for those that don't know much about them. I have a Domino here but welcome a presenter (Rocker or Major or Midge? :) )
I will do a demo on a couple of things I have here - poor mans woodwhizz http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?p=534710#post534710 and chainsaw mill on some mulga or gum (without nails or bolts included )

No worries - bring them along and we will whizz them through the mill and try a bit of levelling as well. I'll level one - if you want more done the setup is there for your use
I assume you will only want them about 30-40mm finished thickness. I will have whizz set up for about that. If thick 50-60mm then I have to add some packers - haven't set-up for thicker yet.

I will shortly send along my address to those coming that don't have it yet. I would appreciate a return message just letting me know how many coming from each just for catering sake. If the final number is a couple more or less that's fine too.

I have just spent 5 hours out there this afternoon pouring a slab outside the shed to give the area some space to use - most likely set upi the poor mans wood whizz on it.
Went out to finish it off around the edges and it was raining :o all over my nice new concrete - damn - so I cover it best I could with roof sheeting - forget the nice rounded edge to the slab. Hmmm :~
Sure hope we get better weather than this stuff recently next weekend. Either way even if it is average we have plenty of undercover room for gathering and chatting. Even the pool is under cover so you don't get wet whilst swimming :U

Ivan - a shame you had to pull out. Thanks for sending along prizes though - you shouldn't have - but thanks.
Looks like the weather is keeping the same. I might put up a tarp against the shed to do the chainsaw mill and woodwhizz just outside. Should work fine. Maybe just a couple of passing showers - will know better on the day - whatever.
I do ask people coming please don't park on neighbours front lawns - yes I know the only one who would have done that is Ivan and he isn't coming now :p. I will park on my front lawn though  - yes my lawn is crap.
SWMBO is doing her best to get ready - I should do the same and try and tidy up the shed - thing is I need it to stop raining and I need a week - can't see either of these a reality. I do have a tidy slab just outside the shed :D

Yes Ivan whilst perched upon an elevated beam awaiting sudden collapse of the support does give that wonderful look of pre-empting pain upon impact from a short sharp drop that has yet to eventuate.

I would firstly like to say thankyou to all those that came to our place today for the gtg - SWMBO and I really enjoyed the event. :)
I hope you all made it safely to your home or next event - the weather tried it's best at times to make us feel it's presence - hot and steamy to start with then rain then wind and heavy rain hmmmm.
We had a great time regardless. Unfortunately we didn't get to do the domino or chainsaw mill demos as we were just busy eating, talking, dodging the weather and of course getting into the destructive tests of Rockers chair joints. These were really popular with everyone wondering the weight they would take. I think Rocker has some indicative values and we can convert them to effective load capaicities for the chair with different joints and timbers soon.
Pic 1 and 2 Big Splinter (Tom) is just heavy enough to break first joint
Pic 3 and 4 Feather weight Tom is replaced by a better load Sai Densai (Neil) Teejay as Bazza steady the plank and joint 2 is destroyed
Pic 5 Tom and Neil steady the plank as Soundman and creator Rocker stand eack end of the loading plank whilst Bazza and Teejay waltz in the middle of the plank - serious load applied here and it held for some time. When it did let go I was kinda lucky the real "Big Splinter LHS of Pic 6" didn't spike the back of my leg. Impressive load capacity there Rocker
Pic 7 Lucky door prizes are a plenty and Lucky Ruffly got first out of hat and pounced onto magazine collection given by Rocker.
Pic 8 Major winner was Major Mark who grabbed cd donated by Midge
Pic 9 Wattlewemake had a good pick-up of marking guage from Major - beautiful piece too.

Teejay,
Many thanks to you and Mrs Teejay for putting on an excellent gtg; I would also like to thank those who risked their limbs testing my mitre joints. I think the tests were successful in giving a clear indication that a well-built cantilevered chair frame has a generous margin of safety in normal use, since it took about 365 kg to break the strongest frame.

A big vote of thanks to TEEJAY, Ella and all who made me feel welcome at the get together. Had a very enjoyable time and met some interesting characters.
Could it be a first - the host out doing the shopping for goodies while his guests/friends are arriving and taking over his house? It's a good feeling when others are as disorganized as yourself. Many noticed the engineering prowess of TJ with his patio roof. I don't think it will really needs all those floor boards attached to the underside to hold it down - best you let me take them off your hands!!!
Love the scientific way you do destructive testing on your chair joints Rocker - beats those high tech engineering methods hands down. There is a chance you could add a few kgs to the max loads - we are after all just past the festive season and maybe a bit heavier that our last weigh-in!!!
Sound Man Joe. It was a good try at getting Neil's burls into the mix for door prizes. Too bad he took them out again.
I'm convinced dai sensei Neil must have heaps of female friends judging by his desire for selecting two of Wendy's note books from the door prizes. Nice try at putting us off by suggesting you need one in every room to jot down all your creative ideas!!
Simonatra Sam and his dear wife could set up as child minders after seeing the way they entertained TJ's young one. Who had most fun playing 'smash up derby' with the matchbox cars Sam?
Thanks to all the door prize donors - way to go - more prizes than people!!
It was a great day and TJ a special thanks to you for sharing your home with us all and organizing it.

... if you get your mill before next gtg all well and good - if not just give me a buzz - that is if you are keen to slab those two burls you brought.
Thanks for the offer Teejay. It will be interesting to see if I can have mine up and running by our next BBQ.
Pic 3 Neil is now on the list to immortalise a Rocker rocker with the instructions now in hand.
Thanks Rocker, always wanted to make one.
Sound Man Joe. It was a good try at getting Neil's burls into the mix for door prizes. Too bad he took them out again.
I was going to offer some off-cuts, but sorry, not all of them :U
I'm convinced dai sensei Neil must have heaps of female friends judging by his desire for selecting two of Wendy's note books from the door prizes. Nice try at putting us off by suggesting you need one in every room to jot down all your creative ideas!!
I wish I had heaps of female friends, but I'm afraid I am just addicted to Wendy's notebooks - Thanks for another one Wendy :2tsup:

A huge thank you to Mr. & Mrs TEEJAY for a fantastic day! :2tsup: :2tsup:
Great to catch up with the usual suspects & meet some new ones. The only complaint was TEEJAY didn't organize the outdoor air conditioning. :p
Anyway here are some photos, I haven't had a chance to do a description of each but you get the idea.

SWMBO and I had a great day irrespective of the weather and it's attempts; and the day was really made good from the great atmosphere brought by those that attended both forumites and their partners.
The time seemed to fly by when we were all together as is the way when you are having a good time.
Thankyou to all that attended and a shame a couple couldn't make it - we had a ball.
The pics you took Major help fill in the gaps from what I posted - thanks.
The neighbours here are fine with the occassional noise as we all take turns in doing this - I haven't made as much as I would like but this will change once some more woodworking projects come on line :)
