I am planning on putting a new ceiling on the lower floor of our two-story house in a few weeks time. This means removing the old ceiling, exposing the floor joists and bearers for the first, and hopefully last time.
Is there any maintenance I should be doing whilst I get the chance? It is a solid Jarrah floor, with Jarrah beams.
Cheers
Jayson.

Just look for signs of any attack or damage (water/fungal/termite), and snap a few pictures in case you ever wonder where some wires were run...

Think about any need you may have in the future for audio or power cables. If so it doesn't cost much to run a couple whilst it's open, or put in a conduit with a pull string.

Speakers in the ceiling look quite neat, and free up your floor space. The space between joists would act like a big speaker box as well I reckon.

Yeah the wall speakers are somthing I have been looking at recently ... and I neglected the wiring! :) Those speakers are generally open backed and designed to use the cavity as a large box or infinte baffle.

Cheers guys.
Lighting is definately on the 'To Do' list, as we are replacing two flouro strips with six or so down-lights, (not halogen). I hadn't thought of speakers, as the home theater is upstairs, but it got me thinking about the home office down here, and future wireless network, etc.
I might run a couple of conduits with strings for future reference.
Cheers
Jayson

While you think about speakers, are there bedrooms above?
If so you may want to throw in some acoustic insulation for keeping the peace, especially if it is your bedroom above.
