I have recently made a table for my Twin Grand Children, the legs and framework are made out of the pine from Bunnings (Hoop Pine ) I think.
Does it need a primer or undercoat??
Also can you paint Melamine sucessfully.

G'day Gary,
Asked SWMBO for advice for you, she does ALL the finishing and painting in this houshold and I'm not sorry about that.
Now her answers
1. Yes pine will need to be undercoated
2. A product called PREP COAT is used to etch the melamine so the paint will adhere, suggests 2 goes with the prep coat prior to painting will make the paint stick better. Use oil base paint.
SWMBO painted 3 large laminex cupboard doors 2 years ago and apart from 1 scratch some IDIOT put on them (me) they are still fine.
