I made our kitchen benchtop from radiata pine about 10 years ago and finished it with tung oil. Over the last couple of years it has been getting sticky and now needs rescueing, recoating or removing. Any ideas?

You will probably have to scrape the bench top and get to clean timber. By thta I mean timber that is not furry or sticky.
I would investigate a type of finish that won't give you the same prolem but will go over the tung oil.
Somone more experienced and wiser than I may shed more light on the problem.

You may want to try "washing it down" with white spirits, it might only be a build up of residue that been used after all this time.

The "white spirits" should clean it up, without effecting the tung oil.

Good Luck

Glad to help.

White spirits, is an excellent dewaxer that is used to remove furniture polishes, dust, cooking and other residues that build up on the coatings.
