Guys - just building a picket fence at the moment and wondering how to build the letterbox into it. I've seen it in heaps of places, the box in between the pickets - but what is the best way to achieve this?

Just build a frame behind the pickets that it sits in? and cut the pickets around it?

Does anyone know where to get a letterbox for this job? Will Bunnings suffice?

Think about making one out of timber.

Look at other designs and use the better features for your own custom made one of letterbox:2tsup:

I had bought a brass letter box opening a while ago and the landscaper built a very simple ply box with a back flap, attached it to the fence, cut the hole for the brass flap, put the front in and yeah! However, the mailbox is too slim and you can't grab the mail with a fist or bent hand. He also had to put brace on behind the pickets as the mailbox was above the rail.

Still, it works, keeps the mail out of the weather and the brass flap spring is such a good one that there's no way any one can grab the mail out without stopping and being noticed. :)
