JARRAH

I am making a hall table out of Jarrah. I've never worked with this wood previously and just love its rich dark red colour.

The wood seems a little oily to me. Is there any special treatment I need to give this wood to bring out its rich colour? I want a natural look with a deep lustre, but without any hint of a plastic finish.

Any recommendations?

I made a similar piece of furniture ie a table, and French Polished mine. The result enhances both the colour and grain of the timber

Make sure to sand extremely well upto 800+.
These don't normally get too abused so I'd go for a shellac finish, whether it be applied as french polish or not. If you had spray equipment there'd be even more options that meet your requirements. The Polishers Handbook would be a good place to start for further info.

I turn a lot of smaller things from Jarrah and use old recycled wood which is well dried. I sand it to 1200 and use Shellawax and result is excellent, but I reckon french polish would be excellent for a table.
