I'm finishing a few picture frames with Penetrol Wood oil. I want to take the frames home (to aus) in a couple of weeks.

Other oil finishes I've used have taken a lot longer than the manufacturers stated time to fully dry and cure before finishing off with EEE and wax.

Anyone got any idea how long this particular oil takes to be ok for final finishing? I dont want to rush in and stuff it up.

Cheers,

Dan

It is slow, very slow.
I like how it looks & feels but it is very slow.
Properly hard is a month.

It also goes off in the can if there is any air in there.
I put mine in small bottles & as I us it, I fill the air gap by adding marbles to the bottle.
The marbles can be washed up in turps & left to dry & reused later.

Thanks Cliff,

do you reckon it speed things up to put them in an air conditioned room?

Cheers,

Warm, dry, moving air helps but make sure it is clean air if it is moving other wise the piece will collect a 'fur coat'

Thanks Cliff.

I have them inside under a fan. See how they go.

The timber is local mahogany and it looks good.
