Hi.. a real newbie question here.... got an old 1920s house up in the Mallee in NW Victoria. It's a long drive to go and look. But just wondering how I can tell what sort of flooring and verandah timber it might have.. is it possible to take an educated guess?
I can tell Merbau, Oregon framing, pine... :U
Thanks John

Yep.....flooring is probably Tasmanian Oak or similar Euc. Frame is likely to be hardwood, either river red gum or tas oak. Most likely the former..
That's what is in my 20's Mallee house.
Verandah timber is a bit harder since most of mine appeared to be made of dry rot and splinters......but I'll wager it was probably a southern eucalypt like the rest of the floorboards.

Thanks SBD... perhaps next visit I should knock on my verandah and see if my boards are solid... Hopetoun for this boy.
