Howdy
I aquired a huge old desk and would like to know what type timber it is made of? The fellow I bought it off said it was New Guinea Rosewood but i thought it might have been Oak? Not that Id know. Anyhow if you can ID the timber Id be grateful. Also top has cupped slightly through the centre running length ways? It looks as though it has also pulled the frame under neath upwards? It is sealed on top but not underneath would that cause it to cup upwards say if it was exposed to wrm sunny position? I was thinking of loading the top up with some heavy weight for week and see if it helps straighten it out, then maybe seal underside of desk top.
finally I want to freshen it up a bit what can I use shellac? wax ?
cheers for your advice:q:U:U:U

Not 100% sure but it does look like it could be rosewood. It is not oak.

Not oak. Could be NGR but would have to see in person.
If its feasable stand a tub of water under the desk and then load wih weight on top. If it straightens out then seal it. Good luck.:U
