French door weather protection

Hi guy's, just a question on stains/oils etc. I have just put in 2 sets of 1-light "french doors" on the back of the house they are solid maple with hardwood treads and jams, now should I use a urathane sealer or can I just oil them or do I stain then seal? just after the best option (I know oiling needs to be done every 6mths or so).
