you need to provide more info. what are your area dimensions? how high off the ground are you?
you've got a lot to consider because it will be a wet area - have a read of this post (http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=58407) as there is a discussion regarding footing requirements etcet for a deck which is up to 3m off the ground.

We have been building pool decks from 8"x2" ironbark joists with the decking being dressed to 36mm thick by whatever width you want.
The thickness enables you to screw from below leaving NO nail holes topside to rot the timber and more importantly catch on bare feet. The topside of the deck being total nail free and flat.

They say that the boards can go down to 3/4" thickness, which is pretty standard for decking around these parts.
The following systems don't require thicker boards either:

Dont know your location but here in the northern rivers area of NSW we find that the standard decking of 3/4" does not last long.
Also has a lot more bounce to it. The thicker decking as adviced by the Tasmanian University is stronger, firmer and last a lot longer which for the small additional costs makes our customers happier.
Since we have been making 36mm decking we havnt sold any 19mm even though we still have some in stock (been there 4 years now).
We also are in the process of building a new pool for ourselves which is a 'Natural Pool' with no chemical or salt filtration. We are using 36x150mm turpintine which will be over the edge of the pool.
