Finishing a timber kitchen.

Hi,

We are about to take delivery of our brand new Redgum/Blackwattle kitchen. The benchtops and doorframes are Redgum. The door panel inserts are in Blackwattle. My question is what kind of finish should we use. We would like to bring out the best in the woods, but also be able to have a reasonably hardwearing, easy to repair surface as we have a young and active family. I have done some research but am finding it very confusing. We will be finishing it ourselves and just want what will look the best, I guess.

WOW this must be something to see. And I will be interested to hear the replies of others on this - to see what would bring it out best. Ahh the wonder of timber.

I am an advocate for water based finishes because they dont yellow. But on these timbers they may go "milky" (try on a hidden or scrap bit first). Also like them because they dont stink, and are better for the environment.

Would love to see a photo of it when completed.

Well I am going to be boring and predictable and say go for Wattyl 7008 two part epoxy. Read the pile of other posts I've made about it...
