I've only used it on turned items, and it gives a good finish. However, see a previous thread about it turning to jelly when the can gets about half full - you will need to either progressively decant it into smaller containers, or drop fillers like glass beads into the can to minimise the amount of air in the can as you use up the oil.

Sand the second or third coat with 800 wet/dry paper while still wet (add oil to keep it wet) for a silky smooth finish. I use penetrol wood oil which I think is the same as the danish oils and it usually takes at least 4-5 coats to get a really even finish, the good news is that a coat does not take much effort to apply.

I'd thoroughly recommend you get a copy of Neil's Polishers Handbook. It's the bees knees.

The best thing to do with Danish Oil is to use a 2 litre wine cask. First drink the contents of the Chateau Cardboard, remove the bladder, pull the tap out of the bladder and rinse the bladder out with hot water, allow to dry. Pour the Danish Oil into the bladder and replace the tap, expel any excess air and replace the bladder into the box. I have used this method for ages and have not had any Danish Oil go off. Hope this helps.

Mm that's a good one about the wine cask.
Another one that does not need much preparation is to keep your denish oil can in the fridge next to the beer. Providing you are able to tell the two cans apart you will be just fine. Your Denish Oil will stay liquid for years.

I've heard that people swear by cod liver oil for gout and arthritis. So I wonder what will happen if you drink some Danish oil to cure the gout from the Red stuff?
