Dear All,

Was wondering if someone could give me some advise on re hanging french doors on the patio.

We live in an old Queenslander on a main thoroughfare which results in a lot of movement in the house. Consequently, the doors have become misaligned and I cannot lock the door without considerable force. :C

I have tried replacing the hinges and resetting the doors, but the lock still becomes misaligned.

Can you please offer some suggestions in order to over come this??

Thanks a million

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by misaligned but if the it means that the doors have gone out of level with each other the easiest way to get them to lock again is move and reset the striker plate and assembly that the locking bolt goes into. Dont try to move the lock.

You must live near a very busy road !!

What DD says is on the money.

Have experienced the same problem. When you look at the striker plate there is a hole for the deadbolt, and possibly a hole for the latch, separated by a brass 'web'. On ours I removed the web between the bolt and the latch and opened up the area into which the bolt/latch could enter. You may haveto make up another striker plate to suit depending on how musch mis alignment there is.

Would venture to say it has more to do with the mositure content in the ground rather than the road

Hey thanks for that. I just assumed as we get heavy truck traffic that it was due to that. I will give it a go and see what happens...

Thanks very much,
