Oiling Oregon Door

G'day Folks,
I originally had this in the Painting forum, but here might be more appropriate. I have an old oregon door which has been paint stipped. I want to use it in an external position (although under an eave) facing the westerly sun. Can anyone recommend an oil finish for this situation. Thanks

If it's going to get wet and cop the weather, you'll need more than oil I think. oregon doesn't like being in the open. It's OK for pergolas and stuff where it's under cover but must be protected. It doesn't weather well.

In light of the above - how about some marine grade carbothane?

Or, there are other posts detailing oiling of decking

Read a post earlier where (from memory - had a look but couldn't find it again) the general consensus seemed to be 6 - 7 months until re-oil regardless of brand / price

I've worked a fair bit with Oregon and an oil finish is just not the type of finish I'd be attempting. Varnish for sure but not oil. Pours are too open and the softwood too soft for oil. Heck! I could be very wrong on this so if I were you I'd try a bit on a scrap piece and see what happens...

Thanks for the replies. On further reflection , I think I'll go with the Capothane.
