View Full Version : Adelaide Shed Meet
Studley 2436
26th September 2007, 09:30 PM
Well it has been an age since the last one, when are we going to have the next one. I notice a ton of new SA woodies here but I am yet to meet them.
Has to be time to get the gear out and bring one thing and show and tell again for a woodies shed meet.
Trevor was going to do the next one after the real quiet one in my shed last time. Me Trevor Zen and Dangermouse. Sheheeeeze anyway lets get one happening before the silly season have a barby and put a few faces to names.

Hi Studley
Yes it will be at my place and I will start orgaising after this long weekend. It has been one of those years unfortunately but I hadn't forgotten. At this stage I think early to mid November is a strong possibility.
Harry72, any clues on when you might NOT be working because I know many would like the chance to catch up.
I suppose something could even be organised at fairly short notice to fit in with a delivery date of the Great Bessey Clamp order. I know Harry has goods to collect as do many others.
Start the feedback fellas and expressions of interest are welcome.
For anyone that might be interested in location, my place is pretty central being on the western side of the Adelaide airport.
Regards
Trevor

The K150s are coming in a separate shipment from Germany, as I understand, and will take the normal 8-12 weeks. Suggest not waiting for them, or we'll be going very hungry.
TrevorOwen
27th September 2007, 06:14 PM
Keep them coming girls and boys. Looks like the Bessey's will come before the BBQ is organised. Oh well! Could be two trips for you Harry. Thanks for the heads up on possible invitees. I was going to do some searching so you've given me a head start.
Tankstand, 15 Dec is too close to Christmas so you should be OK then. My preference is for a Saturday so work on that one until I can pick a date next week.
Keep the feedback going and continue to watch this space.

I will send a PM early November to those who intend coming to provide details. There are still plenty out there who haven't posted so I hope that now we have a definite date more will reply, so let's make this a big get together.

Well it looks like Bessey clamps may take centre stage of any display. Numbers are looking pretty good and I have sent off emails and pm's to those who haven't for whatever reason given any indication that they are aware of the get together.
Make sure you have space in your inbox if you only receive pm's because I will need to give address and contact details a little closer to the event.
A correction to one of my earlier posts is necessary. I said that I was situated on the western side of the airport; well that should have been the eastern side, that is between Marion Road and the airport, just south of Richmond Road. Must have been having a seniors moment!!
All are welcome, especially if you have been too shy to come to one of these events in the past. We just have food (and drink of course) and fun, share experiences and expertise (whether you have any or not) and enjoy the fellowship.
Of course bringing along something to show is encouraged, whether it be a new darkside tool or an example of your latest work. But if you wish just bring along yourself. Partners who can put up with shed talk will not be excluded.
Wow, this could be a BIG show.:D
Cheers

Adelaide Shed Meet on Sunday 11th November at 12.30pm is looking good at 15 definite starters and a number of maybe's. A number of member's are yet to respond to my PM's or Email's so the numbers could yet grow. Let me know if anyone is bringing SWMBO or HWMBO. Lunch of course will be a simple BBQ provided by yours truly but you are asked to bring your own drinks.
I have about a dozen chairs and so if a few kind folk could chuck a chair in the boot that would be great. That cut's you out Zenwood because you won't be able to fit a chair and your blackwood cabinet in together. If any of you are picking up clamps from Javali, remember to leave room for the chair because I don't want chairs left over after the event.
Studley, you are the official photographer so charge your batteries and clear your memory cards.
I will email or PM my details by 28th October.
Of course the day is Rememberance Day and so anyone wearing a Poppy or Rosemary MAY be rewarded with a free drink.
At the moment the lawn is nearly dead, so any liquid spillage in the back yard will be a blessing.
Cheers

Good on ya Harry. I'm sure there will be interest in a demonstartion of changing planer/jointer cutters and setting up using the magnet method. And my machine will benefit as well. Bewdy.
We have great interest so far with numbers close to 20 so it should be a great day. The gas bottle for the barby is full and rarin' to go. It will probably rain like hell just when you want a fine day.
I haven't heard from bnj, Boatmik, tameriska, Shedgirl or Woodgirl at all and Tonto and Ticky are undecided. Buzza is unable to commit so far but sounds like he would like to come. Thanks to those who have replied to my emails or PM's and sent apologies.

You mean it was not by invitation only?:-
The Adelaide Shed Meet's have never been by invitation only. If anyone on the forum is interested then all they need do is post and say so. Some people were sent PM's or emails on the prompt from others but interest is generally from individual forumites who wish to have a social and interactive get together.
If you are interested then as the host for No.7, post or send me a PM or email to let me know.

This post is just a reminder about the Adelaide Shed Meet No.7 to be hosted by yours truly on
Sunday 12.30pm 11th November 07.
The rain should hopefully have cleared (I do love the rain) and I look forward to everyone having a good time under clear blue skies. No outback verandah so if the sun is out you might like to bring a hat or at least Forum Cap.
I am catering for 20 which is a good number and I look forward to either catching up again or greeting new faces. Don't forget to bring your own drinks and some of you, a chair. I do have about 12 chairs.
If anyone feels a need to contact me you should all have my details.

Thanks also to Mike for the hunk of wood that I am yet unable to identify (was it Silky Oak Mike?)and to Lefty Jim and I think ???(can't remember)for the bottles of wine. I apologise for my forgetfulness.
Sorry to hear that it took you so long to get home Harry. I was thinking of you while I was doing dishes and thought at about 8.30pm you should be home by about now with maybe one stop for water. Well at least one radiator is better than one motor.
A special thank to for making the effort to come. I hope your stay didn't cost too much at the casino , or maybe SWMBO won enough for you to buy a new lathe!
Look forward to the photos Studley. Thanks to the photographers.

Just saying thanks to Trev and all the guys at the meet,
I've only been into the woodworking fiasco for a couple of years now, It was great to meet a bunch of guys who are willing to share their knowledge.
Nice to hang out with some genuinely friendly blokes.
I was thinking it might be a little imtimidating walking into a backyard full of woodworking fanatics, but it was'nt, and I'd definately be recommending to other newbies to the forum- get along to a show. I learned a little, drank a little, got sunburned a little and all together had an afternoon to wind down after what was to put it bluntly a b*st*rd of a week.
Special mention again to Trev, you really put in a effort mate, Thanks for showing me and the others such warm hospitality.

Yep its from the Adelaide Hills Gravillia Robusta I think, thats the main species around here although not speaking with authority. Anybody wishing to follow on with these waterhole gatherings? Everything has gone quiet since last year. I was thinking about hosting a "happy new (financial) year" party around the last weekend in June or the first in July. Any takers?

Thanks guys. A couple of maybe is not exactly a stampede so far... any better ideas how to go about this?
First weekend in July is fine with me, but I'm flexible. Took quite a while to get everybody sorted out for the last one, and in the end we were just 15, IIRC.

Harry, Tonto, you have the longest trip ahead. Would you both be happy with the long weekend? Say the 8th with 7th and 9th as options? Once you are booked in, we can settle on a date.
And we can celebrate the Queen's birthday, if you find references to the financial year offensive. I am a republican, don't think republicans should feel offended either... :D

Actually I am sure the Queen should be offended just think how many birthdays she gets in a year! She must be creaking up past 400 by now.

Might even bring me little truck for a drive...

Thanks Harry. The going is very slow, though. Unless we get a reasonable number of people, looks like I'll just shout you at the pub.:D IIRC somebody put up a date poll for something similar. Would that work better?
