Hi,
I am working on a 2nd storey addition to a double brick home, the 2nd storey is going to be steel framed, stud walls.
I am wondering how I can go about installing the aluminium windows in the upper story, so they are still recessed to match the existing windows downstairs.
I was playing with the idea of fixing the window from the inside instead of the outside, then sealing up the outside edges with sikaflex, before installing the blueboard, i would have to run the blueboard into the recess and it would lip underneath the edges of the window. Once the board has been rendered the edges of the window should be flush with the render finish, and it should match the look of the brick downstairs.
Would this provide enough seal around the window to prevent water getting in? Or would I need to run a flashing somewhere?
Once the windows are installed I would do another stud wall on the inside (double stud, ha!), so that the windows have a sill on the inside also.
I hope you guys can understand my ramblings, Its kind of hard to explain.
Thanks!
