Air in hot water tank

Hi to all, hope someone can help with this one. Our electric hot water system never seems to have enough hot water and continually fills with air and needs to have the release valve lifted every second day to let the air out and fill the system with water. The water pressure at the sink and shower taps in the house seems good.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

What brand is your hot water?

Sorry for the delay in answering - the system is a Saxon Copperflow 140L

They are not a sealed tank. The copperflows are a copper "bucket" with a lid full of water not uner pressure that is made hot via the element. The mains water flows though a copper pipe sitting in the water - heat exchanger.

There is a valve to top up the water in it automatically (kindof), but basically, there is always an air gap at the top.

Me3, that doesn't sound right. It has a relief valve so would appear to be a pressure vessel. 140 litres is very small for an electric unit. I wouldn't expect it to last very long.

Saxon copperflow are not pressure vessels as such. They have a pressure pipe running through them.

Not sure why the hot water runs out. Try some good water saving devices on the taps. Aqualoc works well, as it only restricts the flow to one tap(hot or cold).

I have attached a pic of the Copperflow sizing chart. I assume the model you have is 140 litres in capacity. Maybe your unit is undersized for the number of people in your household? Also, check the type of electrical supply connected to it (off-peak etc).

Hi to all and many thanks for your responses. Can't seem to get to the root of the problem so I might start looking for a larger replacement and hope that fixes things.
