Timber post for garden tap

What type of treated timber should I use to replace the garden tap post? I'm planning on concreting the post directly into the group.

No need. Just use a piece of H4 rated hardwood. Or H3 with the in ground end coated in used motor oil or similar.

But don't whatever you do use concrete regardless of what timber you use. Because the concrete will stay moist and the timber will self destruct. Just pack the soil back in around the post....you could also use crusher dust or fine gravel to help keep the moisture away from the post.

I planted some T/P posts on the weekend. A shovel of aggregate in the hole, then the post, then the soil with half a shovel of dry cement mixed in. Overkill for a tap post though! The aggregate gives the water somewhere to drain to so that the post is not sitting in a puddle.

That's what I did, we have about 10 taps around the house garden (1 acre), all on star pickets.:2tsup:

Star post, star picket, if you look from the top the look like a star, used as intermediate supports in farm fencing. Your local fencing/metal dealer will sell them individually or in bundles.
