Hi,
I have just been reading a heap of posts on the forum about laying floorboards and acclimatising...
We start building our home in Kuranda (Far North Queensland) in January. We are buying up recycled Tasmanian Oak to use for the floor and taking it up in a container from NSW.
Anyway, the wet season starts in earnest in February and continues until the end of March. The rainfall goes up dramatically, and hence the humidity, during that time. Our timber will be protected in the container.
We're trying to work out the earliest likely time we will be able to lay our floor. Rainfall in mm goes something like this: Jan 380mm, Feb 420mm, March 390mm, April 45mm, May 40mm, June 35mm, July 40mm, August 35mm, etc.
We will most likely be ready to put the floor in by the end of February but looking at the rainfall and reading about acclimatising the timber in the house I'm concerned the timber will take up too much moisture then shrink and leave gaps when the wet season finishes.
Would appreciate any advice / suggestions on our situation and timing.
Kind regards,
jo
