G'day,
I posted this in the Drivel thread, but for those who don't venture into the ice cave.
Mrs. Waldo isn't doing very well. :( and she's been admitted into the Royal Women's Hospital on Wednesday 08/08/07.
She had a scan on Monday and her cervix had shortened to 28mm, had her 19 week scan on Wednesday and she'd shortened to 15mm which meant panic stations. She's is now in hospital on medication to stop any more shortening with a scan on Monday to see what's changed.
She may be having one of two cervic sutures to stop things going from really bad to horribly terrible (it'd be off the ricter scale in a worst case senario) we'd lose the little person.
MIl is down here as of yesterday helping me look after my little treasure. So it's a juggle between work, wife and little daughter.
Best case sencario is they'll let Kylie out of hospital after a. cervix suture has been done and she's had a few days rest, or b. the medication has worked and she can come home.
scenario c. she has to stay in hospital until the little person pops into the world. Either way it'll be another Premmie, and we're told in Kylie's case that women haven't gone past 34 weeks - trouble is Kylie is 20 weeks, 4 weeks off when she went into hospital last time and 8 weeks off when Sarah came into the world.

Unfortunately . So far the one saving grace is that she has normal embryonic fluid build up, last time in one go they drained 5 litres fro her :o , being a diabetic the fluid is a given, so fingers crossed for this.

G'day Rudigar,
Thanks for that.
The update on Kylie is that she's boooked in for 2:00 tomorrow to have a cervical suture done. It'll mean a general to get it done and then a general later on to have it taken out.
It hasn't been confirmed yet, but after a few days of hospital bed rest they may let her come home. I hope so because it's lonely without here and it's confusing my little girl who doesn't know why Mummy is here and what the hecks going on.

G'day,
As an update Kylie had a cervical suture put in yesterdat at about 3:00, all went well except for coming out of the general and feeling "like crap; and "I just want to die". She got some slices of bread down but not much after I left last night she threw it all up.
Her specialist has said that she'll be having a scan on Monday morning at 11:10 and after that can come home. :2tsup: She'll have to have complete rest for a bit and then after a while can get back to a 1/2 normal life, our idea though is complete rest until the little person pops out - make use of MIL while she is here (she'll be here until after the event).
So far so good. :2tsup:

Watson, Dj, Ian, Alex, Gregoryq, Priemsy, Rob, Al, Cliff, Stuart, Groggy, Simomatra, Watson and Fred, thanks all for your posts. I'm sue too that things will turn out Ok, it's just the hurdles along the way that give the grief.
I keep getting told that blokes have it easy and the hardest thing I'll ever have to do is sitting on the loo. :U , she's forgetting though the dangers that lurk in sheds :D
Went in to day to see her and thankfully my little girl was her normal self and was happy to see Kylie, her last visit Sarah was a bit distant towards Kylie, possibly because her mummy was in a wierd place or something  but today she was up to her usual laughing and cheeky self (I love being a Dad :2tsup: )
Kylie's scan is at 10:50, hopefully it's "nick off and go home' :2tsup: Kylie isn't thinking postitive or otherwise regarding tomorrow, in case it's more time in hospital - which is fair enough.

G'day,
Well 10:50 came and went this morning with no show of a wheelchair to get Kylie down for a scan, the reason being one of the doctors in the department didn't show up for work :~ so long delays were the order of the morning. 2 hours later her doctor who was to do Kylie's scan comes up and says sorry, she got through all the other peoples scans but she couldn't do Kylie's as the scan gizmo was on the bunk. :? She could do the others but not Kylie's, whathehell? So it was, "sorry we'll have to do your's tomorrow when the machine is working and then you can go home"
I wasn't too happy and Kylie was trying to keep me under control. They knew she needed a scan as a matter of priority, so why not move her up the list :? and that she was waiting to get home.
About 1:00 her gynocologist came up (top woman she is :2tsup: ) and said she'd be happy if Kylie wanted to go home and come back tomorrow morning for the scan. But Kylie thought the travel with sitting up in a car for 3/4 hour each way would be too much etc., so she chose to stay another night and face the pitiful excuse they call tea.
Her coming home isn't a given, but hopefully it's a yes.
Schtoo, I was flicking through my phone as I was with Kylie and found a photo of MIL sitting next to Kylie in Feances Perry almost 2 years ago and commented that it only felt like yesterday.
Thanks Tonto, Stu and Wendy. If we hadn't been through this before it would be much harder. Having gone through it before we're sort of more aware of all the pitfalls, still doesn't make it any easier.
Howdya do that

The latest is that Kylie finally had her scan done yesterday arvo and is now at home :woot: resting. She has to keep activity at a virtual 0 and now hopefully the next bit is that the little person decides to stay in for at least another 14 weeks, which would bring her up to 34 weeks.

G'day,
BigShed asked in another thread so I thought I should update things.
Kylie had a scan on Monday and the suture is doing it's job as her cervix has lengthened by 10mm to 25mm, so that's some good news. Fluid wise she's in the higher end of normal, sort of ok, but scary.
Wednesday she had her appointment with the gynocologist - it'll be lucky is she makes 30 weeks, she may be in hospital soon for pain management which is making her days other than comfortable. The gynacologist will be happy if she makes 24 weeks, it'll then be a viable baby :( The other thing is she's the size of 24 weel pregnant woman, that was last week at 20 weeks (tomorrow she's 21 weeks)
Her days are basically lying down or sitting for short periods, at least she's home for that rather than in a hospital bed with her Mum to look afer her.
It's a long road yet and although we've been there before it's nonetheless scary, in ways more than last time.
Hopefully she can hang in a lot longer yet as when she's admitted to hospital next it'll be until the birth. That's the plan anyway.

G'day,
Things have changed for the worse. The suture has worked but the previous scan it was 25mm, now it's 19mm and had it not been for the suture we'd have a dead baby.
On Monday Kylie had a scan and her fluid is excessive. So there are two options:
1. A fluid redcution - but once Kylie has had one she has to keep going back for more - they are extremely painful and come with a risk, and which happened with Sarah, is that the needle could punture her omentum which could lead to infection and bring on a very premature birth.
2. take medication that has been proven in the U.S. to reduce the fluid, but it's not yet had medical trials in Australia. Kylie was to be part of the trials - but that's gone by the by. For the medication there are no cons.
Her specialist that does the cervical scans wants a fuild reduction. Her other specialist, who is currently on holidays inti Monday does not - no guesses for our preference.
So it's now a wait until Monday for a phone call, which will be most likely be to come into hospital until the little person says hello. While she's in hospital Kylie's diabetic levels need to be monitored around the clock, she would also be on steroids to give the baby the best chance.
At the moment Kylie is counting down the days until Monday to hear from her specialist regarding the medication over the fluid reduction.
Kylie is as of Sunday just gone 23 weeks, 24 weeks and chances of survival are slim for the little person. In the meantime the pain has increased dramatically, on her back, pelvis, ribs - everywhere.
Past Sunday which will be 24 weeks - I really don't think Kylie's body will hold on for much more. To say it simply - things are scary.
Sorry I didn't reply earlier to your posts Lubbing5cherubs and Gingermick, thanks for the comments and your prayers. Kylie had been doing some cross stitching - but even that now is difficult. She is now only having a shower every two days to keep movement down to a minimum.

G'day,
Yesterday Kylie was experiencing increased pain over what she had already been enduring and also more pressure on her cervix. So she rang her specialist and they organised a scan in East Melb' as soon as possible.
The scan.
The doctor doing the scan was flabergasted that Kylie could be having this a second time over as it's a very rare thing to happen and also the build up of fluid - which in diabetics doesn't normally happen until the lst several weeks. He took a measurement of the fluid and it's risen from 30 to now be 32. Her cervix has shortened from 19mm to 18mm. These didn't raise too big an alram bell, but to err on the side of caution she's been hospitalised in Fances Perry for pain management and close monitoring.
So she's now in hospital until the birth which could be anytime between now and 30 weeks.
