MIL wanted to buy FIL a dressing gown.
I said dressing gowns are for girls.:U (Well I actually said a lot more than that.:D :D )
FIL agreed.
The wife wanted to know what my ww mates think.

Over to you…

I've got one. Nice and warm if you want to go to the loo in the middle of the night.

Bugger what people think, if it's good enough for Hef (http://theblemish.com/images/2007/02/hugh-holly.jpg), then it's good enough for me. :D

I agree with pawnhead - a dressing gown is a great thing when the night is cold and the bog is at the other end of the house. Also measn that you can get to and from the bathroom in the morning for your shower without freezing and without having to take your clothes there(they always get damp and it slows up the use of the bathroom if you dress in there). Unless, of course, you are emitting lots of greenhouse gasses by keeping the house warm while you are sleeping for when you get up .....:(( :((

Also, a dressing gown very nice to potter about the house in on a Saturday morning while you have a cup of coffee in the sun and read the newspaper (this is of course a reminisence of a prior life before children:D :D )

Nup, definitely for chicks and elderly hospital patients only.

Next you'll be wanting to know who wears pajamas :p

Surely Hef, like me, would have an ensuite

No electricity needed.

To steal a line from The Goodies:

"What's worn under the quilt?"
"Nothing! It's all in perfect working order!"

Don't matter what we think.

Its all up to FIL

MIL is buying something that won't get used coz FIL don't like them

End of story

I've got two, but the're called "bath robes"
SWMBO usually wears one and has the second one hidden somewhere in "her" wardrobe.

those old enough may remember an add from the 80s where the bloke says to the woman beside him "how come my clothes always look better on you?"

it's the same with bath robes or dressing gowns.
the MIL wants a new one and will "gift" it your FIL to get one.

Jmk, do you go outside to collect the papers too. :D

Now pay attention. This is how a real man should wear around the house. :D

Actually there was one moment in my life when I might have wished for a dressing gown. I opened the front door to get the milk and it slammed shut on me. I had just gotten out of the shower and was dressed in a towel and a T-shirt. So there I was on Liverpool Street Darlinghurst at 8am dressed in a towel and a T-shirt. At 8pm it would have been acceptable, but anyway...

The only way back in was to walk (running not advisable in a bathroom kilt) half a block up Riley Street, then into the lane and climb over the wall at the back of the house.

Come to think of it, not that unusual a sight in Darlinghurst.

Wongo
16th July 2007, 12:22 PM
Did anyone help you to climb over that wall?:U

silentC
16th July 2007, 12:27 PM
There's no way I would have accepted help from anybody lurking in a back lane in Darling It Hurts, mate :o

Just one more question for those who owns a dressing gown.

Do you have “HIS” or “The world best woodworker” stitched in the front?

:roflmao:

Now listen here Wongo:

I own a dressing gown.

There is a distinct difference between owning one and wearing one though.

I saw my dressing gown being worn this morning actually. There was I suitably attired in a not dissimilar manner to the photograph above, when my beloved was heard to remark to no-one in particular, but I assumed because I am the only other person in the house that she meant me to hear;

"It's definitely a two dressing gown morning"

Then I noticed that she had my "big" blue one over the top of her red girly one. So that's why I need one, and probably so does your FIL!

Cheers,

P
:D :D :D

Now boys, a bloke in a dressing gown can be very fetching on a cold morning.... fetching me the paper, fetching me a nice cup of coffee.......

I have three. A white luxurous terry towling job..good for winter.
A fairly thick silk Japanese number... good when its a bit warmer but not hot.
And a very light nylon job for summer.

My excuse is that my wardrobe is at the front of the house so the only other cloths I can grab when i get up is yesterdays smelly stuff, no thanks.

Did you ever consider moving it? Most people have it in their bedroom :)

Wongo

Bleedin Thumb, which one do you wear in the garage?:D

Bleedin Thumb
16th July 2007, 02:51 PM
In the garage I wear an apron....

And Silent we have a small 2 bedroom house and I put inbuilts into the front room then kids came along and forced us to the smaller back room. BTW we have recently found out that that bloody stalk is going to visit us again so now its time to extend.:(

silentC
16th July 2007, 02:54 PM
Well, congratulations! But I hope you meant stork, because being visited by a stalk(er) is not something to celebrate :)

Bleedin Thumb
16th July 2007, 03:03 PM
Yes it was stork, don't know how happy I am about it all...
Had just got the youngest into school, my busness was gearing back up, my wife was being offered a partership with a big law firm and I was doing this mental jig thinking that finally we were going to get our lives back..

Well the job offer got withdrawn, we have given all the baby stuff away and it looks like another 5 years of nappies, childcare fee's and restricted working hours.:(

silentC
16th July 2007, 03:06 PM
Well I found out what was causing it and put a stop to it. So there will be no more storkings at our place :D

Bleedin Thumb
16th July 2007, 03:10 PM
Yes I've yet to find out what is causing this problem.... but when I do...

Maybe its that silk dressing gown??????

I found out what the cause was - the only solution is that there is never a day before her hysterectomy or your vasectomy when you can allow your life partner (aka SWMBO) not to take that pill. The day she doesn't she will relax you with a fine dinner and the best booze and seduce you with sweet words and embraces, and 9 months later - stork time.....DAMHIK (but I have a 2 yo daughter).

Midge,

I was going to point out to the Mexicans and dwellers in other sub-Antarctic states that not only are dressing gowns unnecessary in the habitable parts of Queensland (Toowoomba excepted), but that we had barely even heard of such outlandish attire. I am afraid you post has torpedoed that story. I just record the fact that I do not own a dressing gown, apart from a royal-blue silk one, which is really only suitable for wearing on second honeymoons in Phuket.

Besides, what else can you wear when smoking a pipe, playing the violin and taking drugs?

Yes, but at 8 A.M. much more likely to be slinking over the wall into the alley, instead of vice-versa. :p :p

I have two dressing gowns and actually wore one one day last year, I think. :)

Sherlock would never be seen in a dressing gown. A silk smoking jacket perhaps...

Alex S is right (as usual). My wife bought me a robe-like thing about 20 years ago. It hangs in the bathroom because that's where she hung it. Wouldn't catch me wearing it. If it's cold in the morning, put on a jumper. The dressing gown adds no warmth anyway.

:) Well I am looking at getting a robe - a great big one made from towel material - reason is i swim laps after work in the pool outside and it is damn cold when you get out all wet and have to frig around with the pool cover for the next ten minutes before going inside.

So if you are dripping wet wearing speedos the air temp is under 6 deg - I recon that's a pretty good time to put over a heavy towel robe - I don't have one yet - safe for now as I'm getting over a flu thing.

Putting tracksuit and jumper on when all wet isn't a good option either.

I have two dressing gowns, one in the ensuite, which in summer I put on after a shower, quicker and easier than towelling off. The second I wear in winter for trips to the kitchen to make a pot of tea and then return to bed. Again quicker and easier than putting on trackies and sweater.

My choice of dressing gowns is simply based on laziness and utility, not cause I have poofter tendencies.

To make matters worse, in summer I use some Thai silk wraps for the trip to the kitchen from bedroom. Didn't used to bother but now we have neighbours and don't want to shock/offend them.

Again laziness, not style, is the reason. Bet youse $1000 I can get a wrap tied in place faster than youse can get trackie daks on. Incidentally this does not apply to Wongo, as he never takes his off.

OK this is it. Despite objection from me, my wife and FIL, MIL went out and bought one the other day.

To make matter worse, FIL had it on on Saturday and he dropped his keys in front of me on purpose. He asked me to pick it up for him. (true story)

I just ran home and we have not made eye contact since.:o

I suppose I'm old enough to think I'll wear whatever I darn well feel comfortable in and not follow some foolish dictum society has laid out as proper wear for a 'man'. Many a cold morning I've been thankful for a warm robe and slippers to slide into while I make my morning coffee. Fashion plate I'm not, but at that time I've better things to concern myself with than how I look. If you're comfortable in it why should you care whether some idiot thinks you're manly enough. Unless, of course, you have some doubts in that regards.
