Hi all,

We are collecting quotes for 130mm solid timber floorboards to be professionally supplied & installed over concrete, stairs & tiles (we were advised too expensive to remove tiles).

Given a choice between battens or plywood under solid timber flooring, we have received the 3 following recommendations thus far, each from different companies:

1. Battens over tile base; plywood over concrete base.

2. Battens over tiles & concrete.

3. Plywood over tiles & concrete.

What is recommended for installing over tiles, stairs, & concrete, & why?

Many thanks!

G'day.
19mm plywood fixed with splitz anchours at 600mm centres with a membrane between the substrate and the ply.
remember...130mm should be top nailed as per Australian Standard.

Glue and nail to ply. Glue is Bostick Ultraset.
Ply is better than battens as it gives a firmer base.
