Hi. I'm wondeing how I can cut 3/4" glass. I'm not sure if it is tempered or not. Are there different techniques to cutting temperedglass versus non-tempered glass? The glas cutters with the small wheel say it can only cut 1/4" thick glass. Can I still use the same scourer to cut 3/4" glass? Can glass be cut with a band saw or dremel with a sanding blade? Thanks.

Glass shop is my advice. Unless of course you have bucket loads to try on first  :D

Tempered glass cannot be cut; must be annealed first. The tempering process places both faces in tension and the interior in compression. A scratch or cut in the surface produces unbalanced stresses which causes the glass to explode (more or less). Band saw or Dremel? Absolutely not. Cutting glass this thick should not be attempted without heaps of experience, very specialized equipment and safety gear, as well as paid-up life and health insurance. Consult with a glass shop to identify your options. New glass may be more effective than having your glass cut.

Just in case I haven't been clear enough, cutting thick glass is NOT a DIY project.

I completely agree with above. Sydney Glass is one of the few places (in Sydney) with the equipment and experience for this stuff. They did the custom glass top for my subwoofer coffee table. It even has a small cutout for the crossover/volume controls.

All the glass tempered glass I have ordered for shower screen etc has always come direct from Pilkingtons, even though it was purchased through my local glass shop. i.e. I'm pretty sure they can't cut it ... they have to either cut it and then get it heat treated or they just order it complete from the manufacturer.

Toughening is done after all cutting and holes.... Not more cutting after this it'll just cube on you
