With some reference to climate change but not totally, just a weather talk, I figured it might be interesting for people to post what the weathers like where they are, has it changed in the last few years, colder, warmer more or less rain ?

Round here, top of the range in St East Qld, its been colder than last winter, finally got a week of decent rain, first for the year. The drought is ongoing but the current temperature drop is a bit weird, already had more colder days than last year.

Cold and wet. A mini cyclone is forecast to hit Sydney early tomorrow morning :oo:

It's been raining on and off for the last two weeks. :)

This of course is a GOOD THING!

They reckon that the dams might hit 50% capacity by the end of the week.

I still remember the winter of '73. The big rains, the great flood, followed by the hottest summer on record. The days when it was so hot that all you could do was lie on the beach and get in and out of the water all day. Hot westerlies dried you off before your bum hit the sand.

About 3 years ago I went for a swim on New Years Day and the water was like ice. We had a very short summer this year, only really a month or two of decent weather. I didn't get in the ocean once this summer.

We had the warmest May on record but the coldest November last year.

It's raining now and quite cold, I'd say about 10 or 11 degrees. It got up to 12 yesterday.

What does it all mean? Who can say. Yes the weather has changed in the 30 or so years that I can recall clearly. Every year is different. Is there a trend towards one type of weather? Not as far as I can tell. I reckon it's like looking out the window of the car and expecting the scenery to always be the same. If you drive in a circle, sooner or later it will be.

For 2 days it had been a constant 15°C overcast, mist & drizzle & then the change moved through just after lunch yesterday & we had some heavy rain, a bit of wind, the sun came out for 3 minutes, the wind dropped, it clouded over & went back to mist & drizzle & it is now a constant 16°C. :D

Summer starts in a couple of days. Today about 31c and smog advisory. Lawns are starting to dry up and they are restricting lawn watering to early morning and late evening 1 day per week Monday to Friday depending on your house number. No watering on the weekend but you can set your car on the lawn and wash it and kill 2 birds with one stone...

Possibility of some rain in a couple of days. Too hot for me as I have a breathing problem (COPD) so stay inside and make sawdust computer bytes instead.

Hey I guess thats 'normal' then and the intervening years of rain was just a wet spot on the timeline. I dunno if the suburb of Munruben is where you are, or if its suckling its water from Wivenhoe in the Brisbane catchment but if it is, the only reason there is water restrictions is they keep letting the water OUT of the dam. As in the Brisbane river hasnt actually flowed for several years ( if you go out past Toogoolwah you can see this) but they keep letting it out to keep it flowing through the city.

There is water about but the managment keep letting it flow out to sea.

Yes, in Munruben John, so whats the answer,? The Brisbane river hasn't flowed in several years, isn't that a sign that we have a shortage of rain? (I'm not trying to be funny John)
I can't really comment on the past history of the rainfall in my area as I have only been up here for five years but I can honestly say, we have had no rain of significance that I remember in that time. I agree with you, we let too much water escape out to sea.
The council and government are encouraging everyone to install water tanks, thats progress:?

John, if they didn't let the water out of Wivenhoe, Brisbane would have no water. The water flows down the river to Mount Crosby weir where the pumping station and treatment works are.

BTW 12deg here at midday. I can't remember a colder day in sub-tropical Nambour.

Hhaha yes Brian they do, i was just noting the fact that it may be a 'false economy' in water terms, keeping a river flowing out when no water is flowing into it. Apart from sparse bouts of rain, whatever flows into Wivenhoe comes from Somerset dam and its catchment.

besides i was actually joking, could u imagine if they didnt let any water out apart from the sucking pipe at Mt Crosby, central Brisbane the river city would be dry, city cats floundering in the mud, catfish dying horrible deaths, the river walk becomes a mudlside.:D

Sounds cold for Nambour, cold as crap up this way, cant recall a colder day either, so much for global warming..

brisk and damp here today and more tomorrow forecast is for storms ...today was interesting on the bobcat as the ground turned to slishyslush pretty damned fast and what with building up the lower driveway to allow easier access for the semi with the house in a couple of months time I must admit I spent the day laughing my head off or singin lustily while slip slidding all over the paddock!! :headbang: Gawd I do love operating machines!! :hapy:

And tomorrows gonna be even BETTER!! :2tsup:

have to redo the creek side levee bank near the house and cut out some steps then around to the other side to have a whirl at that driveway... all the while rain phissin down ground goin to mush an me laughin me dial off!! WHAT A LIFE!! :thyel:

THEN!! THEN the fun starts... gotta rip down the back corner and tearass all the rubble an accumulated whatevers into piles slide around picking it up while tryin not to go assoverturkey into the creek which at that point is about 4mtrs drop :stretcher: ...then its off to the other side of the creak for a bit of digging out of the old creek run as a diversionary tactic if the rain becomes Melbourneish :rain2:... make a few hillocks for tree planting as I go then back around to the house side of the creek to play down there for a bit... then FINALLY as a final thing and the actual reason I hired the ruddy toy to clean up the house area so its sorta reasonably level for the surveyor when he lobs up on Mondy!!

But talk about fun!! Had an absolute hoot of a time... didnt realize how much I missed muckin about on a bobcat gotta get me one!! wonder how much they go at auction nowadays? mmmm :whistling1:
