Hi everybody,
I have some decking I removed from one part of my house and am intending to reuse it on another deck as part of some renovations. They are 100 x 25 wide. Not sure what kind of timber. They were painted with regular house paint and what I want to do is flip them over and sand them. They do need however, to be cleaned up on the edges and my question is which is the most effective way to do this. I don't have a thicknesser, so figured I would just rip them. About 200L/M worth.

Yep, ripping them would be a good option.

I have never done anything like this before, but if they are all the same thickness, I am guessing you just want to remove the paint?

What about laying five or six on their side, clamping them together and then ripping along the edge with a belt sander? Then you could turn them over, still clamped together, and sand the other side.

Just an idea....

I wouldn't think you'd want to run a painted edge thru a thicknesser anyway. A grotty power planer maybe, but you'll wreck the knives either way:no: I'd TS rip 'em like you said. Do all one side, then reset the fence and do the other. My $.02 (adjusted for the failing USD)
