I've learned (the hard way) to pre-write my replies in Notebook or other word processor, so I don't lose the text when/if the connection goes off the rails. Attachments still need to be re-done by hand, but usually don't have attachments in replies.

It is caused by the heated discussions on climate change. :oo:

14th June 2007, 12:42 AM
I've copped quite a few over the last few weeks, but it doesn't seem to be any particular time period to me.
The only "common" thing about the occurrences seem to be that, for me, they occur at around 20mins past the hour (AEST), almost any hour, so I've been assuming they're periodic maintenance loads on the server. :shrug:
I'm probably wildly off base though. Not that that'd be anything new.

Who's on first base? :? :stooges:

I get the server is down bit, hit the refresh on your browser etc.

I've copped a few "server too busy" responses;
plus several login rejections - "you have entered the wrong name or password".
Now k_s is not too hard to spell and my browser remembers my password - so?????????

Am looking into the possibility and cost of setting up our own dedicated server. Currently we share one with cyclingforums.com.au who as I type have 2560 odd people on line along with the 720 odd of our own that's a lot of people and information to be processing at one time.
They have almost 3.2 million posts and 124,180 members add that to our little lotn of over 1/2 million posts and there is a pretty big load of stuff being housed and worked on. All together we're talking some pretty serious processing.
Both forums do a full back up of the database every day and a major back up of the whole shootin' match once a week. It's a wonder there isn't a complete systems melt down, especially if it's all happening when America is waking up or everyone in Oz is on line because they don't have "Sunday Night at the Movies" on the idiot box any more.

I would be happy to pay a membership.
The car club I am in has state branches all affiliated through a national group and they run a forum. The forum is open to the public but certain parts of the are only accessable to financial members, this encourages people to join as they want access to all areas. Does create an extra workload to manage and you also need to become a operational club with consitution etc if it is not being run by a business.
