Repairing ceiling paint mishap

Hi All

(sorry if this has been covered elswhere)

After an airconditioner leak some time ago I thought I would paint over the huge stain it left.That's when the trouble started....

Where the stain was, there was also a 100mm x 20mm bubble and I thought I would just roll over it with nice new paint...silly me. As I rolled, the original paint just peeled off, and peeled off and so on. I now have a hole in the paint about 900mm round, back to the original plasterboard.

Advice on how to repair this without leaving to much of a ridge around the edge of the circle would be much appreciated.SWMBO is interstate and I would dearly like to get this done (with as little evidence as possible) before she returns..:- :- :-

just skim coat it with a premixed skim coat or plasterboard topping comound, sand back and seal than paint over.

sorry to sound like a dumbass but can I buy these in small quantities or do I mix it myself? (Ingredients/method)

You can certainly buy the handyman version in small pails, not sure about top coat on its own, but the combined jointing/top coat brew is all you need. Both CSR and Boral sell it probably comes out of the same vat. No mixing required, looks like soft icecream, and goes on like smooth mud.

often the painting area will have some filler called skim coat. It come is small tubs or tubes.

i like to peel back as far as it will go then seal it off with a good sealer then a premix top coat as the others have said, usually put it on with a trowel and sand off with a block sander, seal it off and paint the whole ceiling.
the premix top coat you can get from most hardware stores.

I have some Dulux Prepcoat, will this do as the sealer and are you saying that I should use this before I put the skim coat on and then sand and seal again

Do the top coat 1st.

Go to a plasterboard supplier to get the top coat, there are plenty around and are a lot cheaper than hardware stores.
