Anyone had the Knappstein enterprise reserve lager (south oz)? Real lovely citrusy :Daroma. Amazing lager IMHO, Not a pils style but still hoppy and quite malty.:p
And I also enjoyed Sinha Stout (sri lanka). Chocolate :wink:coffee :Dnotes and a good body and 8%. Best not to cool this one, like all strong Ale's.

Just finishing off a La Trappe Dubbel.

Weathers cooling down here so time to dust off the barley wines and dark ales and light up the fire. And some people dont like winter! Go figure........

Prost!

Had some "James Squire Original Amber Ale", got to be one of the best beers I've tasted. With winter around the corner out come the dark and hearty beer, good for the health let alone the spirit.

Cheers big ears.:2tsup:

Anyone says VB Mid-strength and I'll force feed them draino.... :((:p :D
Bloody un-Australian, I reckon that stuff is.
--*Rant Off*--

Polished off a six pack of some German beer last week. Furtzgarden or something orather. Very nice stuff. 'Beer from the Black Forest' it said on the side. Smooth as honey going down the hatch. :2tsup:

Edit: Furstenburg it was called. Found one of the caps in the ashtray out back.

Time almost to go and get one of my avatars. Only problem is they are the 2006 model. The first one I got, in 2004 I think, was a 2001 and it had really started to develop the complexity and port character that its famous for. Perfect with a strong cheese. :2tsup:

Had an Erdinger Dunkel and another german brand (dark wheat beer). They started of boring until the beer warmed up a bit then they were quite good.

Look you bunch of barstewards, I am om my second course of mega antibiotics and just got the script for the third. I have a bar fridge full of delicious beer and all you rotter's talking about more delicious beer.

Me not happy camper!:~

(Can't even play in the shed either, rotten sinus!)

Personally, James Squire Porter in the winter is good.

As much as I hate mega swill from CUB I think that the VB Original isn't too bad for a mass produced swill.
When the kegs (home brew, not kits) are running low I don't mind the Bavaria from Coles, Dutch beer, German name, made for an Australian supermarket.
Not going on about what I like but what I don't like is the euro beers made under licence by CUB etc, they taste just like another local.
An imported Stella Artois is quite pleasant but the CUB version tastes (or lacks taste) like a slightly modified Carlton Cold.

I was treated to some 4 year old stout (home brewed) when in Oz. this year and the utility area under the property resembled a brewery, with more classes of beer than we see in Europe.

Hoping for a return invitation one day:)

yet if you talk to the brewery about it they'll tell you its fits the flavour profile exactly. Same with the becks.
But they are definately ordinary compared the knappstein reserve lager.

Same with the becks.

...and Heineken:((
Those are three I enjoy but not from the local swill house, made under strict control my bum:~

I like carlsberg on a hot day and I have just bottled a home brewed version of it. As well as that I have a cloned bees nees down as well so I will be keen to see how it turns out.

I'm a James Squires fan. The Porter is my favourite, but I recently acquired a case of their seasonal Hop Thief Ale. And very good it is too. Knocked off half a dozen on Saturday and half a dozen Original Amber Ale as well. Then had to have a sit down for a while....

Had a single Cascade Lager tonight, went down very smooth.

Time for an ad..
not for me but for a mate.

He's opening a brewery at Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills soon (Lobethal Bierhaus). Can't tell you what the brews like yet, his first one's not out of the tanks, but the place is looking good. Let you know on the results. Thanks for the opportunity for a plug for him.

Personally I prefer a good red (wine).
"Chardonnay, the drink you have when there's no more red, the beers all gone and the water's probably contaminated":D

Cheers,

Ther is no such thing as a bad beer - some are just better than others.

As every rule has an exception which proves the rule

- the exception is the "Green Death" - Southwark.

KB was a good beer to use in beer batter.

Funny you should mention that Bob. When I was but a callow youth, there was a fairly serious beer strike that affected the supplies to our area (Central Qld). The trucks started arriving with supplies from Mexico and the surrounds, and low and behold one of the unknown beers that we tried was Southwark. Almost made me give up beer entirely until the strike was over. I've never drunk the urine of a cat, but Southwark gave me the feeling that I had.

Samuel Adams boston lager. I used to think all american beer was watered down hop cordial but have discovered that there is a thriving micro brewery scene there and though the above is probably a mega brewery it still makes a rather malty aromatic beer.
Are there any seppos that can point me in the direction of a better american lager that may be available here??:)

Yep, the same situation here in Wide Bay - :; only we went a step further and sent away a sample for analysis :;

The result:-

"Please rest this horse as it is unfit for work" :o

Seriously, when the strike finished one of the local pubs got stuck with a couple of pallets which nobody wanted. They tried Buy 1 get 1 for free - didn't work, they tried buy 1 of any brand and get 1 free - likewise blokes actually told them to forget it. Not really sur what they ended up doing with it but I presume it was dumped.

Another vote for Little Creatures Pale Ale.
James Squire Porter is very nice as well.
I still prefer the stuff from my local micro brewry though :D

Got a six pack of James Squire Pilsener. Haven't had that for about 5 years but great stuff.
I love coopers sparkling ale, but unfortunately the storage practices of many of the larger distributors dont account for the yeast still being in the bottles and it goes bad if not treated correctly. I've have bought many a coopers (still younger than the best before date they now carry) that had the yeast sediment turned into these great chunks of putresence. Takes away from a delightful experience:(

oh heres a good old thread. there has just been another release of coopers vintage extra stong, it's just like a chinmay imho and half the price which mean it's still flaming expensive but very nice. it only seems to come out every 2 years. Matt
