Seatbelt Help Required

The driver's side retractable seatbelt on my 96 Suzuki Vitara V6 was badly damaged today rendering the vehicle unroadworthy... one dishlicker is VERY unpopular!! :(( . Suzuki have none in stock in Australia and it will be 2 weeks before they can get one from Japan ($458.99 + fitting :( ). I know it's illegal to fit belts from vehicles that have been involved in an accident, but does that law also apply to belts from vehicles that are just dismantled for spare parts? If not, where might I find one? Or are there any other alternatives?

Most belts are similar. Supercheap or Autobarn have probably got them.

Yep they come with several types of fittings.

Try a local car wrecker, they are bound to have one.

Not sure if it applies to all states, but it is illegal for wreckers to sell seatbelts - even from good cars.

However, if you ask them nicely, you'll find most will.

I would visit repco or another retailer, as they will have a list of suppliers who can do a local replacement. There are companies who redo belts for muscle cars & classics, and they should be able to do yours.

Must be an NSW thing again. Never had any problems getting replacement seat belts here from the wreckers.

The local crash repairer told me it is illegal in SA to sell or fit secondhand belts, and that they fit only original belts because no modifications are required. I have found a local garage that is happy for me to purchase a universal belt and they will do the installation ... thankyou ptc for your help :2tsup:


So what is it with dogs & Vitara seat belts? Just interested, as I'm considering getting a dog & a Vitara.

All Vitara seatbelts are Schmako flavoured :D

NEVER buy original equipment, unless you are feeling wealthy, as stated go to Supercheap or a similar outlet and buy both parts and bolt straight in, just make sure it is the same coupling so it is not too obvious.
