Sealing a copper pipe

Is there anyway I can seal the end of a copper pipe for a few days until I get a plumber in to re run the piping?? I need to cut a couple of pipes so i can install some units, and was hoping someone would know how to do a temporay seal on some copper pipes.

Well, you can solder on end caps if you have access to a propane torch. Then melt the solder and pull them off when the plumber comes. I have also seen people cut the pipes long, crimp and fold over the ends and then cut to length when the plumber comes, but this might be a bit dodgy unless the crimp is quite tight. :)

Really depends on what you have and if there is a fitting or flare on it now.

You can buy screw on caps or plugs to fit on the flare

you can purchase a compression fitting and cap which will seal the end of your pipe without solder or brazing and can be unscrewed for the plumber, the end of the pipe needs to be standard size and round.

Go to a hardware/plumbers supplies, they put you on the right track.

I usually just flatten, fold and flatten the end of a copper pipe if it is temporary. Just do it a bit longer and it can be cut to length later.

Assuming your pipe is half inch

buy a half inch kinco nut and olive, half inch nipple and a half inch cap.

once you buy it you should see how they go together with a bit of threadseal tape. ( not on the kinco tho)

I managed to crimp the pipes sucessfully, now hopefully the plumber will turn up tomorrow morning to finish the job.
