Try turning off your security system (Norton, PC Cillin etc) and see if it works. If so, you need to alter your security levels in that program.

Sort-of what Gumby says - but DON'T turn off your anti-virus etc. What is probably happening is that one - or more - of your anti-something settings is preventing the web page from loading something that you can't see - like squillions of pop-up windows, home page hijackers, ad-ware, viruii etc,. or the page has an 'adults only' listing.
You can adjust the 'adults only' setting as long as some 'helpful' soul hasn't put it on password lock - you can find this in IE under 'Internet Options' > 'Content' for the adult stuff. There are several other options in the 'Security' and 'Privacy' tabs too, just don't open it up too far or you will be up to your eyeballs in PornSpam.
You may need to turn off the 'pop-up blocker' for some sites to load - its under 'Tools' on IE main menu. PITA tho' - some sites just keep generating links like rabbits breeding until you shut down your browser.
Much the same applies for Firefox.
Also - get copies of the free programs 'Spybot Search & Destroy' and 'AdAware SE' - install them, update them & run them weekly - you will find heaps of freeloading software/malware that drags on your computer and sends info about you to who knows where.

Firefox is an alternative web browser to IE.
It is (IIRC) considered to be faster and more secure than IE. Don't know how well this holds compared to the latest IE but there you go.
It had tabbed browsing (excellent) long before IE.
Downisde - some (fewer & fewer) sites don't display correctly in Firefox, solution is to use IE for those or add an extension to Firefox to open such pages in an IE "tab".
Extensions are little program add ons that add functionality to Firefox, enabling you to customise it to your needs.

Click start, run, & type cmd & hit enter.
Type in the following & hit return at the end of each line...
ipconfig /flushdns
exit
Now try again.

Lignum, I can't give accurate directions because I have windows live one care installed and my options are different now .....but .....you dont have active X set correctly ......thats why you cant get web pages to load ....so go here and read "a how to set them" tut from microsoft, as applicable to your IE version...... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/security/setup.mspx#ELAAE
problem solved ...:2tsup:

Lig,
I have firefox at work and can't help with exact detail as its not in front of me at the moment.
Yes, there is a setting in FF that caused me to stay logged on when I exited FF.... take a look around FF, there will be a "log off when closing FF" kinda option, from memory. It wasn't hard to find (or I'd given up looking!)
