My sons 30th Birthday coming up soon and I am making him a box in which to keep the two ties I have bought him (one tartan the other with a clan crest) and a golf cap.
I have some makers marks with my name on and I am in two minds as to wether to put one on the box, is this too vain or would it be appreciated?
I use these marks for different odds and sods but I am at a loss as to what to do here as it could make me feel like a real tosser.

I think he would be proud to have a box made by you, so stick a name tag on it.

PS, you will always be a tosser which ever way you go.

I wouldn't use one for surely your son would remember that you made it for him everytime he saw the box.

Maybe get a suitable coin of this year and the year he was born and fix that to the box instead to remind him of the special type of occasion that you made it for.

Peter.

I think your idea of putting your tag on it is an excellent one, I think your son would be proud to own something unique like.

Having said that, I think Sturdee's coins idea is also great and maybe you can do both.

I agree with Big Shed's idea of both.
Even if not immediately, he will be pleased to have your mark on the box. Obviously, the tartan is special, too. Hence, they are all being tied in, his birth year, his 30th year, his clan tartan and the maker's mark of his father in the commemorative box.
It is a lovely gift, I reckon.

yeah, TOSSER!!!

Forget about him, what about his kids?

I have decided to permanently mark (and it may even be one of those flash thingy's your talking about) everything I make for my kids and grandkids from now on.

I have stuff that my grandfather made, but my grandson won't know that when he's old enough to pick it up from his mother's estate. A mark would have solved that little problem!

Cheers,

P

I am still trying to sort out who first spoke about "dad joke". Was it a son or a wife? Whatever, they all embrace the concept now, especially at my expense in the fondest manner possible.:)
What can you expect, Iain? Why should you be an exception?:2tsup:
