Cutting cornice

I am starting the cornice cutting part of my reno's.

I have a mitre box and had a go at one section of cornice.:no:

Is it easier to use the little plastic "mitremaster" tool from gyprock or should I stick with the mitre box?:?

I downloaded and printed some literature on cutting cornice and read it several times. I thought I understood it but things didnt go as I imagined.

How do I cut all the way through the 90mm cornice? My mitre box only has cuts in it going down about half the height of the box?

Can anyone recommend a good site to look at? Or any tips? PLEASE !

Put a block of timber inside the mitre box, and under the cornice. I don't understand why your box only has cuts half way through though.

I am buggered if I know either. Have you ever tried one of those "mitremaster" tools?

If this is one of the wooden mitre boxes supplied by the cornice manufacturer, then you need to complete the cuts in the mitre box all the way down on your first cornice cut. Beats me why they sell them like that!

I think explaining the cutting of the cornice is one of the worlds more difficult tasks. Give me some and I can show you, but ask me to explain it and it comes out nonsense.

Place the cornice with the bottom edge (picture the edge underneath it if it is up on the wall and you look at it from underneath) flat on the bottom of the mitre box. Then make sure the other edge is flush against the side of the mitre box nearest you. If it doesnt sit at right angles then you may need to stick some wood behind it to hold it in. You should be looking at the outside curve ( convex bit), just cut it and you should be right.

Thanks Kenya I have been away this week end. I believe the tips on cutting cornice on my site should be able to explain exactly how to go about cutting mitres. I easy to read terms. (if you have difficulty understanding them let me know what you find difficult).

The mitre boxes are not cut through all the way to prevent them breaking during transport. You need to complete the cut.
